There are quite a few that choke me up..but the first two that come to mind are:

Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely - Backstreet Boys
One More Day - Diamond Rio

The first was playing on the radio when my daughter and family pulled into my driveway on the day of my husbands funeral. The second came out shortly after. Get tears in my eyes just thinking about them.

Ironically they make me cry, but it's tears of joy. I used to get emotional over those songs and leave the room or make someone change it to something else. Then I realized that I was remembering and cherishing my mothers memory so it wasn't a sad thing it was more of a mini-celebration of her life.

Now if you'll excuse me I have some songs to listen to.

I  you M. !!

I have lots! But I'm a sappy, sentimental kinda gal...

The ones that immediately come to mind are:

Sweet Baby James - James Taylor

Surely the Presence - As performed by Harry and Mary Houseman, accompanied by whoever will sing along.

Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

and Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Performed by Jon Bon Jovi (we played this for Swafia's dad's memorial service and now, no matter where I am when I hear it, I think of him...)

As a side note, I also bawl like a baby when the orchestra plays Glenn Holland's piece at the end of the movie, "Mr. Holland's Opus"... Swafia likes to sit by and laugh at me...

It didn't make me cry until my sister told me it reminded her of my daughter when she was little. Now I cry every time. Especially now that she is moving out and I am driving her south to start her adult life.

Seven Years: Norah Jones

Spinning, laughing, dancing to
her favorite song
A little girl with nothing wrong
Is all alone

Eyes wide open
Always hoping for the sun
And she'll sing her song to anyone
that comes along

Fragile as a leaf in autumn
Just fallin' to the ground
Without a sound

Crooked little smile on her face
Tells a tale of grace
That's all her own

Spinning, laughing, dancing to her favorite song
A little girl with nothing wrong
And she's all alone

Mine are a little different, these songs always made me cry as a performer. I'm a brass player and could never get thru these without crying. All were the "Corps or Band song" for the respective groups. The last song of the performance where we played for "ourselves" not the crowd. The ones that meant something special to us, the songs that bonded us as a group. They bring tears even now as I sit in my office and remember literally thousands of performances, all around the country over the past 30 years. It is one thing to be moved by a song, a lyric or the the emotion brought on an ensemble. It is another feeling entirely to be a part of the music, knowing that just for a moment, you can move someone to tears with the music you are creating.

Precious Lord Take My Hand - Troy State University "Sound of the South"
America the Beautiful (arr. Carmon Dragon) - Troy State Symphony Band
Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Sky Ryders Drum and Bugle Corps
Georgia - CorpsVets Drum and Bugle Corps
You'll Never Walk Alone - CorpsVets Drum and Bugle Corps

Beautiful!

Please Remember Me - Tim McGraw. Came out right before my mother died. To this day, I have a bawl fest when I hear it.

Daddy Don't You Walk So Fast - Charlie Rich. This song came out right about the time my parents divorced. My daddy cried everytime he heard it, and I remember seeing the tears roll down his face. Makes me sad to this day. Here are the lyrics. You will see why.

The love between the two of us was dying
And it got so bad I knew I had to leave
But halfway down that highway when I turned around I saw
My little daughter running after me
Crying

Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Now, it broke my hear to tell my little daughter
That her daddy had to run to catch a train
She had no way knowin' I was leavin' home for good
I turned around and there she was again
As she said to me

Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast

If only for the sake of my sweet daughter
I just had to turn back home right there and then
And try to start a new life with the mother of my child
I couldnt' bear to hear those words again
She cried and said

Daddy, don't you walk so fast
My daughter cried
Daddy, don't you walk so fast
Daddy, slow down some 'cause you're makin' me run
Daddy, don't you walk so fast

Daddy, slow down some 'cause your makin' me run
Oh, daddy, don't you walk so fast.
