Personally, I am all for it! :clap_1: Imagine all of the disfigured soldiers, accident/burn victims, that could have such better lives! What about the kids with congenital birth defects, accidents/ burns, etc., and all of the cruel remarks and mistreatment, they endure daily! From not only other kids, but adults too! Don't they deserve a chance, for any sense of normalcy :D ?

I lost a child at 10 mos. old, brought him home on oxygen and tube feeding, in and out of hospital, till he died. I did all humanly possible to give him any "sense of normalcy", that I could. Even if either of my sons chose to do this, I would support them! I don't feel that we can judge what's "best" for someone, till we've walked in their shoes! God willing, we never will!

However, I wholeheartely agree that extensive testing is necessary and only those found to be a "good candidate for best outcome", should be accepted. Obviously, this will eliminate alot!

I also feel, that the Donor's wishes should be honored and respected. I am a life long Organ Donor and will now offer my entire body, to others. Heck, I'll no longer need ANYTHING! I'll simply be above, with a smile!

It's a shame! :dunno: Seems people are possibly too afraid of topic  and the marvels of medical technology to comment, huh? At least there are some of us, eager to be open minded! :clap_1:

Diane, maybe people do not know quite what to say.
Your post, to me, is of the don't-know-whether-to-laugh-or-cry variety.
(This is probably because my inner adolescent is always a heartbeat away, and the words 'face transplant' beg for some sort of smart-a$$ comment.)

I am all for helping burn victims or anyone else who would benefit from such surgery. It says 'donor' on my driver's license. My dad's corneas went to an elderly man in Brooklyn (he was a good 20 years older than my dad).

I am very sorry for the loss of your child.

I, too, am an organ donor. If they can use my skin, I say go for it-- the skin is an organ. Researchers are making incredible progress at growing skin cells in petri dishes. The skin grows at incredible rates and they are using it to help burn victims and many more types of injuries.

I must admit, when I saw your thread title, I thought this was going to be about a new type of plastic surgery for people living in Buckhead. You know, I'm tired of my face, may I buy yours? I promise to take care of it.

The news guy on the NBC station in Panama City needs one. It hurts me to look at him when they break away twice an hour on The Today Show, especially if I'm eating breakfast. I know that's mean. Please forgive me. I know he can't help it, that is, unless he got a face transplant.

Thank you for the kind words and comment! Though my mentioning my loss was not meant for any reason, other than this. And that is to always try to "do the right thing", to offer someone a better chance at having as much of a "normal" life, as possible! This is why I appreciate and respect this board, people can express themselves, good or bad, positive or negative! Also, it's really OK if people choose not respond. I only respond, when I feel moved too :D !

SJ,

You're right! I'll bet most people figure that this thread's re:a quick fix, to a cosmetic issue. But in fact, it's about giving someone their life back! Or, at least as close to it! Thanks for your comment! :D
