i am wondering.... should your socks match your pants or your shirt or neither ? as those of you who know me can attest - i am just lucky to have socks on that match, much less color coordinate. people at work are telling me to quit wearing my white socks with my colored pants (i told you i am no fashion plate) but when i match them to my top they still make fun of me......i'm so glad they have me to pick on

tough question. Wouldn't it be easier to just wear sandals with no socks instead of shoes? That's how I solve the problem.

In the past, back when I wore socks, I recall it being fine to wear white socks with any color tennis shoes, and those never matched my blue jeans, and I certainly wasn't wearing a white belt. Good luck. Most importantly, forget what anyone else thinks.

I guess it depends: I saw someone the other day who wore lighter colored socks with a dark suit and it looked great!
I'm sure they matched however....the socks, that is.

I can't give you fashion advice, having no idea of your size, shape, lifestyle, etc. But for me, because I am short of stature, pear-shaped, long-waisted and short-legged, it helps if I wear pants, socks and shoes that are all in the same neighborhood of color. Jeans, with dark socks and shoes (all dark colors) for instance, help give the illusion of longer legs and height without drawing attention to the feet -- allowing the eye to trend upward which also helps with the illusion of height.

But you oughtta wear what makes you feel happy and meets your needs (impress client? get a date? stand out? be discovered by a talent scout?) .

If other people have a problem with your socks, perhaps they should keep their problem to themselves, so that it doesn't become your problem. Maybe they give more weight to the wrong focus. My company, here at the beach, used to ask that I dress "professionally" (meaning dress clothes and tie). I reminded them that wearing a suit is much less important than being honest, respectful, acting as an example in life, interacting well with people, etc. If they want a suit, I have some packed away in my closet that I can hang in my office to show those in management that I have a suit, but I'd prefer to focus on the important aspects of professionalism which have very little to do with clothing style. I've seen Realtors who dress elegantly and have a fancy car, but who struggle through reading a contract, doing basic math, or keeping to their promise. "Proper clothing" doesn't make a person who they are.

A fellow Balki. Consider being picked on the highest form of flattery. It's because you are a character. That being said, I try to match socks to my pants, but I do have socks that match my sweater. I have two draws of socks. Love socks. Most times, people don't really see them much because I have a bootie on. Sometimes I don't feel bothered looking for a match. Happened last week. Ask MANgo. :rotfl:

I avoid white socks unless I am doing something athletic, other than that I figure I am doing good if they match each other and are hole free and right-side out. Most of my socks are in the "crazy striped accent" category rather than the "neutral match" category.

IMO if people are looking at your socks constantly there is a bigger issue!

They must love you like a sister if they feel they can tease you. (Who can blame them ) Since they are spending so much time checking your socks out, take an old pair and write "Bite Me" on them. They'll have something to read while they are staring.

That being said I usually match my socks to my pants and shoes so I can look tall and thin like Cindy Crawford. I'm sure it's working. ;-) Most people stare at my chest not my shoes. Which is a shame since my shoes are so cute.

I have socks of two colors: black and white.

White is for walking, hiking or otherwise wearing with sneakers, hiking boots, etc. Black is for dress and causal such as khakis. I am color blind so this helps.

Trivial question: if you are in a dark room and know you have twelve white socks and twelve black socks in a drawer, how many socks must you remove from the drawer to ensure you have a matched pair?
