Board games are a great idea!

My grandparents' vacation house didn't have a TV and few radio options, so we spent our evenings/rainy days playing board games, cards, or reading in front of the fireplace and we had a much closer relationship with them as a result.

There is a TV there now and I don't like it!

It's not a true "board" game but, TROUBLE was always a fun one for me.

One game that I recently bought for my niece, was called GASSY GUS, I wouldn't recommend it, it "blows".:rotfl: (yes, it is a real game that we found)

Scattegories...I am the family champ. Can't be beat. :D

I do remember loving Parchessi, Chinese Checkers, Yahtzee and Trouble.

I must look into this Cranium craze.

battleship, monopoly, twister and girl talk.

I forgot battleship, my brother and I had that one also and played it quite often also. Does anyone remember a card name called Racko? Would not remember the object of the game now at all. I also had a game called gnip gnop that I loved.

Now the games my son liked were Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Mousetrap, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Trouble. He also liked Yahtzee. What memories of the fun times.

Chess.
I also had one called Mousetrap where an elaborate mousetrap was constructed on the board to catch a little plastic mouse.
I also remember getting a Jaws game for Christmas in the 70s where you fished objects out of the shark's mouth before it snapped shut.
I think the Dargs still have Operation which was another classic.

I have not thought of mousetrap in years!! That waas my favorite by far as a kid. I still enjoy scrabble and pictionary and of course poker!!

Man, now I want them all. We had Mousetrap and never caught the mouse. Now I remembering Don't Brake the Ice and Kerplunk. I actually saw Battling Tops in stores last year but then remembered we didn't battle the tops so much as we would shoot the score pegs out of our bb guns at each other.

Chess and Backgammon are favorites here but we need to get all 8 of us around a table. These are great ideas.

I still have my mousetrap, operation, clue, sorry, chess, checkers (chinese and regular) and twister games from my younger days. My daughter loves to play monopoly and sorry. Hubbie and I play Penta.

At my Grandparents we played Wahoo on a homemade board with marbles, and it got very intense. For those not familar with Wahoo:
Wahoo, a game similar to [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parchisi"]Parchisi[/ame], is a board game that involves moving a set number of marbles around the board, trying to get them into the safety zone. The game originated in the Appalachian hills. Most boards are used by four to six players. Wahoo has been a popular game for decades. Even today, custom-made boards proliferate on eBay and game manufacturer [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parker_Brothers"]Parker Brothers[/ame] has sold their own version of the game, under the title Aggravation, for decades.

Our board looked like this one.
