I'm feeling the need to refresh my collection. My Very Special Christmas Vol. 1 is getting a little worn out. I also enjoy Celine's These are Special Times. I can never get enough of The Prayer with Andrea Bocelli.
Please share YOUR favorite sounds of the season!!!!!

There's some more....gotta go vacuum...more later.

Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Love it, love his music -- I'm teaching a course next year about how Bach's work (and music theory) relates to computer science, math, symbolic logic, and art -- so interesting!

It used to be the Manheim Steamroller Christmas albums, but I've played them so much that I'm a little tired of them.

This might be a bit obscure unless you like Celtic music.
My favorite Christmas album is the one that the Irish band The Chieftains did called The Bells of Dublin. They've got Jackson Browne, Marianne Faithful, Elvis Costello, and others singing with them. The album begins and ends with the bells ringing, and I gotta tell ya, I wait until after Thanksgiving until taking it out, play it throughout the holidays, and I just never get tired of it.
As a matter of fact, I just ordered another copy from Amazon because it, like everything else of mine, is still in storage and I did not get to listen to it last year.
My favorite song on the album is the one with Elvis Costello called The St Stephen's Day Murders. It's very wry, very Irish. Here's a tidbit:
For that is the time to eat, drink and be merry
'Til the beer is all spilled and the whiskey is flowed
And the whole family tree you neglected to bury
Are feeding their faces until they explode

I love the Very Special Christmas albums as well. I think I have 3 of those.
I absolutely adore all Christmas music: hymns, pop, country, all of it.

Thanks. Just read G?del, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid by Douglas R. Hofstadter. It's heavy reading, I'm not gonna lie. Just skim it and don't dwell on what you don't understand (that's what I do) because you'll never finish it if you do. If you have any questions, email me. If you'd like, pm me for the class website when the course starts in January.

I love Celtic music and glad to know of this cd. I enjoy Amy Grant and Barenaked Ladies. Michael W. Smith has great Christmas music and one of my favorites is First Snowfall. I made a cd and put in on 6 times......okay, so I can be a little excessive.:funn:
