We sometimes fly into Pensacola en route to Grayton, where we loved Mrs. Hopkins' Boarding House, in old town. It was famous when I was growing up, family style lunches and dinners and the best fried chicken ever. You could ask for "pullie bones" and they would bring out an entire basket. Lots of the best veggies and southern breads, but revolting desserts. No one "in the know" would eat the dessert. And if you sit at the big tables, it is almost guaranteed that you will run into someone from your past or someone who knows someone you do in some remote location. Reviewed in the "Road Food" section of "Gourmet Magazine" several years ago.
Anyway, I heard that they closed to do some long needed work on the house and the kitchen. Does anyone know if Mrs. Hopkins' Boarding House has reopened? My husband is Michigan Yankee who loves that woman's fried chicken!
