This is from your article and not only is it not true now, it never was.

And some have an outsized sense of privilege. In 2007, just a month into the new Democratic majority, Speaker Nancy Pelosi asked that taxpayers provide a jet that could make a nonstop flight to her Bay Area district. She reportedly wanted a luxury, stateroom-outfitted version of Boeing's 757-200 like those the vice president, first lady and Cabinet officials fly on.
And there was a lot of foot-stamping when the Bush White House said no.

Go here for the true story if you want it, this all the leg work I'm willing to do. snopes.com: Nancy Pelosi's Jet

To be clear she did not want to buy one. She wanted access to the aircraft that the 89th Wing already had. Based on pecking order she was told "no". To be fair I don't think that has changed with the change in administration. The 89th Airlift Wing has Gulfstream V's (C-37A's). They are a true transcontinental aircraft and can make the trip non-stop which was her beef in the first place. Not sure when they were added to the inventory because I believe that the longest range Gulfstream they had at the time was the G-III which had legs that were about 30 minutes too short during certain times of the year.

The aircraft that they are apparently buying is the Gulfstream 550 which is an updated version of the G-V

You didn't read the link

First link...The Democrat-controlled House wants to buy nearly $200 million worth of private jets so lawmakers and a few high-level bureaucrats can travel in style. Check...got it.

Second Link...House Sargent at Arms asked for the use of a larger plane when the small ones could not fly without stopping. Check...got it, too.

My first line of my post said she did not want to buy one. Not sure what I'm missing...

I can't find reference to her having a beef maybe I missed it.

I read it as speeding up what the military requested, what did you read or did you read it?

Yes, I read that an unnamed staffer said that. How much was it sped up - 5 years, 10 years?

I also read that it isn't the same luxury version sold to private customers. That doesn't justify the spending to me either. They could buy a Greyhound bus if they are averse to traveling with us common folk in commercial planes. Not very ecologically friendly zipping around the country or world in a private jet.

I did find it interesting that it was a politico from Georgia who ordered up the additional two jets. Let me see...where is Gulfstream based? Hmmmm...oh, right. That would be Georgia!

:rotfl:

Pelosi! Not Reagan.

I don't think they should just fly commercial, I think they should fly commercial coach! Let us see just a little sacrifice in these hard economic times for Pete's sake!!

Oh how embarrasing--how do I delete that

I am still liking the idea of them flying coach!

Between that and my plan to pay off the national debt w/ a percentage of their campaign contributions (5% local, 7.5% state, 10% federal) I think it would add up fast!
