I hate to tell this but I will. For my 10th birthday (besides a trip to Disney World & a big tent) I got a white toy poodle I named "Sniffles". That dog went everywhere with us, did everything with us including eating chocolate, ice cream, drinking cokes and eating people food (mostly meats) just whatever we were eating or drinking. We did not know any better. Well that dog lived until I was 28 and she was 18!!! Of course we don't do that now to Sweetie she only ever gets her dog food and one type of treat. I just always wondered why that poodle did so well? (DISCLAIMER: Do Not Try This At Home with your dog!")

ChrisV, I am sorry about your dog.

We even signed a contract saying that we would never have our dog off a leash unless she is in a fenced area. Invisible fences are unacceptable according to the contract. If our dog dies due to injuries from not being leashed or escaping from an invisible fence, we have agreed to pay a $5000 penalty to the breeder.

Do you use an invisible fence? I've always wondered if they work????:dunno: :dunno:

Breeders can be very hard to work with at times....and down right rude too! I've tried to be fair with those who took one my babies, as I've known the harshness of many a breeder.

Thanks KD for that site!!!!:clap_1: We all need to keep each other aware in these busy times.

I've used an invisible fence when one of my pups began to dig under the fence. One day, I came home, and only one dog was in the yard. The one with the shock collar was gone. I found the disassembled shocker collar on the porch. That pup came home later in the afternoon. I would love to have had a video of what happened that day. The fenceless fence company (shocker) gave me a replacement collar when I told them what had happened, but I never used it again. The shocker collar does shock. I tried that out just to make sure and tested it on levels 1-4. Level four is such a jump of electricity, that I was too chicken to try level five. I set it at level 3 for my pup.

I accidentally tried this once. I was walking the dogs and getting ready to put the collars back on but realized I had forgotten the mail. Had it in my hand and crossed teh line! Didn't hurt, just knocked the wind out of me. With Belle, it never worked because we started so late and she figured out she could run through it. Huggs and Kisses have yet to get out (knock on wood) and I think it is because they learned as puppies. I enjoy it because my yard is not set up well to have a fence. The invisible fence gives them more freedom.

one of our neighbors had an invisible fence, he must not have installed it properly because the dog never paid the least bit of attention to it.

I think if they are big dogs, they have to get trained while young or it doesn't work. My two are trained, but my Belle started late and learned she could run through it that it would only hurt for a second. And who said dogs were bright?
