I have sampled the dry stuff I give my dogs, but not the wet stuff. BTW, it is the Chinese who sold us the tainted wheat gluten. Maybe they are trying to take over sooner than we have predicted. If terrorists wanted to wipe us out, all they would have to do is poison the buns or meat source at McDonalds, which probably comes from some third world country. Kind of scary to think we put so many eggs in one faulty basket.

Funny you say this...I looked in the pantry today and eyed a new box of Cheerios with suspicion.

Our Missy used to get into chocolate that the kids would leave out sometimes. I remember having to force her to drink hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting and then watch the rainbow colors of M & M's spew forth!

Chris, I am so sorry about Baxter.

That list is certainly a good reference. However, we have witnessed or heard of many instances of dogs eating raw eggs, grapes, bag of Oreos, cannabis cake, raisins, Halloween candy etc etc and surviving just fine--however the Halloween candy did involve large amounts of barf. (Except for the eggs and grapes, these incidents were accidental.)

Elwood's breeder does the raw diet (their dogs are their kids) but thankfully they did not insist that we do the same. I could do it if I had to, but I am not a big carnivore as it is and handling raw meat twice a day does not appeal, nor is it especially practical IMHO. We feed Canidae and Royal Canin and Elwood gets a banana every night. And he actively seeks cat turds--and the occasional seagull poop. Ick.

Years ago one of our dogs got into the garbage and got a small chicken bone stuck in her throat. It was horrible. She kept gasping and I did not immediately understand what was happening. But she was finally able to upchuck it.
OTOH
There is a dog down the street, chained to a tree pretty much 24/7, who is fed mostly table scraps and I've occasionally seen chicken bones poking out of his food bowl. So far he is okay. I rarely see his people.

LadyD:

I'm sorry to hear of your dog's poor health. We had to euthanize Baxter, our 10 y/o boxer-mix, Friday morning, for apparent renal failure. He only ate Alpo Prime cuts and gravy- Purina didn't issue the Alpo recall until Friday evening. We are not positive that he became ill due to the food, but it sure is a terrible coincidence.

Prayers sent for your dog.

chris

what is it about cat turds that dogs just can't resist? I had a chocolate lab once that I could not keep away from the litter box no matter how hard I tried...

Top 'o the morning, Toots!!! I've always heard that the grosser it was, the more appealing it was to the dog. :dunno:
