Alright damnit! I occasionally feed my dogs the canned Alpo Prime Cuts and Gravy, and still have a few cans on the fridge. I didn't hear about this latest recall and don't think it was on the official list last time I looked. :bang:

SJ, here's the link- the press release was issued Friday evening...
http://www.petconnection.com/blog/2007/03/31/pet-food-recall-and-now-purina-joins-the-recall/

For what it's worth, I spoke to a manager at the Sandestin Publix. He checked the product that they pulled from the shelves but didn't have any of the suspect lot numbers. We bought the food from the SoWal Publix's, Kelly;s and Wal-Mart, and I haven't checked with the other stores yet. I asked if they had a way of knowing if they ever had the lot numbers in stock, and he told me that they don't log the lot numbers.

from ABC News (full story):

... Nestle Purina PetCare said the Alpo recall was voluntary. Spokesman Keith Schopp said it was not the result of his company's testing, but a reaction to the FDA's announcement Friday that melamine had been found in wheat gluten from a Chinese supplier. "Four hours later," said Schopp, "we had reason for concern with a limited amount of production."
That concern was that the same Chinese company involved in earlier recalls had supplied wheat gluten to Nestle Purina's plant in Crete, Neb. Nestle Purina said it was the only one of its 17 production facilities where the wheat gluten was used.
"We're confident that we've isolated this problem," said Schopp.
The company recalled 13.2-ounce and 22-ounce cans of Alpo Prime Cuts in Gravy as well as cans of several sizes in variety packs. All carry the plant code 1159 and the warning, "best before Feb. 2009."

The cans which I bought at WaterColor Publix are coded 1159, but have a different expiration date.

I would toss them, SJ. Don't take the chance.

i think they should make the people who made the tainted dog food eat their own product. see how it affects humans...although i don't consider them human.

I have sampled the dry stuff I give my dogs, but not the wet stuff. BTW, it is the Chinese who sold us the tainted wheat gluten. Maybe they are trying to take over sooner than we have predicted. If terrorists wanted to wipe us out, all they would have to do is poison the buns or meat source at McDonalds, which probably comes from some third world country. Kind of scary to think we put so many eggs in one faulty basket.

:rotfl: :rotfl: Will is going to kill me for telling this story, but you eating the dog food reminded me of it.

When he was little (like age 2 or 3), there was a wreath made of dog cookies that hung at the vet's office. They were the multi-colored Milkbones- reddish, green, tan. Anyway, he would cry and cry until I took a cookie off the wreath and gave it to him to eat. The other people in the waiting room always gave me strange looks! Of course they were safe to eat- just flour and broth. He probably picked up worse things off the floor at that age!

For years, the staff always asked Will if he wanted a biscuit for being a good boy.
