Right here!
Goodwitch and 30Ashopper- I was thinking about our news choices today and what GW said- when I was growing up, everyone read the morning and evening daily paper (Courier Journal and Louisville Times), and everyone watched one of the networks every night for the news, and I don't remember anyone grousing about a political slant of any media, or maybe I wasn't paying attention.

In my late 20s/early 30s, my dad started griping about the publisher of the Courier (Barry Bingham was a progressive Democrat), but the TV cable news had taken off and the nightly news was no longer the nightly news.

Now it is impossible to find any media outlet that is truly unbiased. So we get news from outlets that are the least offensive to our own sensibilities.

I agree in part, although I'm not sure we ever had unbiased news sources, we just didn't have anything to compare them to.

Personally I like all the sources and opposing views, I find it fascinating to compare how each side presents a subject. (I recognize however that I'm a polticial news junkie. Some might not be so appreciative.)

Hi Shopper,

I'll take a shot at answering.

For one, Fox *News* bills itself as a fair and balanced news network. But then they carry these programs. It's not really a fair comparison to make between say Hannity's show and Bill Maher's show. One of them is presented moreso as a nightly news show on a news network. The other is moreso presented as weekly comedy commentary on an edgy entertainment network.

These two shows I cited don't discredit the whole network. With Fox there is an underlying theme/tone/thread that is present with almost perfect consistency throughout its program schedule. You can watch Beck and Hannity and become outraged and then wake up with Fox and Friends where they lead with questions like- "aren't you outraged that..."

I wish conservatives would discuss Fox's programming on this thread as if we were all in a media studies class.

Instead everyone seems to just be getting defensive and trying to bring in other networks' programming into the conversation or going back to the classic fallacy of
"it's #1 so nothing bad anyone says about it can be true especially it comes from a liberal".

Andy, I'm glad you chimed in. You reminded me of a point I wanted to make.

I'm not afraid that bright folks like you prefer and watch Fox News because, as you said, you are able to discern between the wrestling and the prize fighting.

But America is full of Americans who quite frankly aren't very bright. I believe the combination of such programming and lack of intellect equates to a scary populace.

That's a pretty bold and brazen statement, do you have any evidence other than the fact that Bush was elected President twice.

Can we discuss the particular video I just posted? I think many will take this idea and run with it! "They" just "let it leak." "They" meaning Obama administration I am presuming.

"And I'm not trying to introduce a conspiracy here." she says. BULL! Then why say it?

That's my take on Fox. Just sit around and gab about this and that and meanwhile many take it as gospel.

@Gidget-

Since it isn't plausible for so many on the right that our continued commitment to fossil fuels is misguided and drilling isn't safe/clean,,,

it only makes sense that this was sabotage and that the scary socialist president stands to gain by all of this.

Ugh.
