Does anyone remember when Fox and Friends began? Several years ago, I turned off the local news because it was doom and gloom. Typically, I only watch the news in the morning and for a while only viewed Fox or CNN and would switch between the two. After 9.11, I had to turn Fox off because Fox and Friends was so annoying with each of them talking over the other, etc. CNN had a much calmer set. So, I would watch the major networks in the morning, but finally had to turn off Katie Couric because of her slant. I also remember turning off Peter Jennings because of his slant. Katie seems to be better now, but I prefer Brian Williams in the evening, if I watch at all. I think a lot of viewers genuinely want the truth of events without an anchor injecting his/her beliefs in the report.
I watched a little of Fox this morning and again it was annoying. Twice in the last 10-15 years I've turned off all news completely because it's just too negative and now I watch my local channels, very rarely checking out the cable news unless I want to catch up at an odd hour.
I think all newscasters should be unbiased when they report, but that isn't the case. So, it's up to the viewer to seek balance, whether it's another network or the internet. As far as ratings, a for profit organization will go after what sells. If they do it successfully, more power to 'em.
I understand what Geo is saying; however, I think it has more to do with pure laziness and allowing someone else to do your thinking for you as opposed to listening objectively and drawing your own conclusions. That's a travesty. But, Foxy, Faux, etc. isn't the only cable news channel successful with this. They are just most successful if one judges success by the ratings.
