I think the problem most people with Fox has very little to do with them being conservative but the fact it's an opinion channel charading as a fair and balanced news organization. On the contrary, the people who will defend it in a sort of cultish way are almost always certainly doing so because they identify themselves as being conservative. Fox News has become sort of a cult of personality for the poor me neo-conservative.
Personally, I don't watch any big time cable news channels or shows any longer because all of them are opinion based and very slanted. In my opinion, Fox News is by far the worst offender. Thats documented in the documentary film Outfoxed and on the website Newshounds.
I consider myself a libertarian and the greatest offense on my beliefs is someone trying to associate me with this neo-conservative movement. Basically, these slick talking, big government new conservatives have convinced people that Ronald Regan is God, Barry Goldwater is Jesus and that they embody the ideals of true conservatism.
If a republican were sitting in the White House, the first post of this thread would have contained a link to a NYT front page news story excoriating the president for his lack of timely response to the oil spill.
Liberals hate Fox because the network does not display unabashed support for and promotion of the liberal agenda. There's no changing that.. which makes this thread, the umpteen millionth "liberals pile on Fox News SoWal thread", quite pointless.
The day liberals start heaping criticism on MSNBC or the New York Times, I'll start taking threads like this more seriously.
Doesn't that work both ways? The day neo-conservatives start heaping criticism on Fox News is the day they can be taken seriously about their comments towards MSNBC & CNN?
The liberal agenda is the same thing as the neo-conservative agenda in my mind. The only thing that seperates them is theatrics, an elephant and color red. All of these people are buddy-buddy behind the scenes. It's little more than theatre played out in public.
The tea party movement is fractured in two because on one side you have the people who actually spearheaded the movement like Ron Paul and the other side is the Sarah Palin's, Glen Beck's and Sean Hannity's who have hijacked it and made it their own to try and galvanize the right spectrum of the political isle. The modern day Republican party, commentators and members have more in common with democrats than they do traditional conservatives.
Fox news has to be the #1 cable news network in the world, they announce it every 12.5 minutes. Those on this thread who claim that people against fox must never watch it are right; repetitive soundbites and video can only be watched so many times before the channel must be changed.
Cnn is not above sensationalism either. I can only watch about 1 segment of Mr Blitzer before I need to move on. They also have the new(to me) tabloid style show(which I can't find when scanning forward a week, maybe they pulled it) which I couldn't believe they were running... I thought I was watching Fox, or weekend edition.

I watch Fox News daily.
Despite its #1 ranking in the ratings-
Much of Fox's programming is bad for people looking to have a fair and balanced view of the state of our union.
I regularly ponder why so many people are fans. I have drawn the following conclusions:
- They provide a whole lot of material to anyone who doesn't agree with the results of the last election and who is prone to getting angry about it
- They have a lot of unknown but extremely beautiful women reading the news and injecting fed up commentary throughout
- They utilize carefully and consistently placed icons/symbols typically associated with American patriotism and "Americana" and use rhetoric to match
- They make sweeping generalizations
- They demonize democrats
- Their production value, aestheticly speaking, is superior to anyone else
- They regularly quote people out of context
- They no longer shock me but continue to scare me (because they are so far out there sometimes)
- They scare their viewers (to keep them fed up, to keep them watching and as a call to action)

that is quite a statement. in my experience any person who can truly think for themselves, regardless of political party affiliation, critiques a news source based on many factors. I happen to know plenty of "convervatives" who most certainly would never want to be lumped in with much of the programming/views offered by the network. Fox is so blatantly right wing that I still find it hilarious that they are taken seriously as a news outlet by anyone besides those who totally go along with a one track view of all things political.
I have never enjoyed sensationalized news, or emotionally negative talk shows hosted by drama kings who are out to trash millions of citizens in their own country who happen to hold different views.
Life is just too short for bad tv of any sort.

Shopper, I agree with your first paragraph that the NY Times would have an article accusing a Republican POTUS of acting too slow with respect to the oil spill.
But your second paragraph is bogus. I have been called a liberal but I don't take exception to Fox News because it doesn't advance Obama's agenda. I am not happy with a lot of Barry's moves. And truth be told I would like to watch some fair and balanced programming that is critical of him. Fox is just critical of him.
