I watch Fox News daily.
Despite its #1 ranking in the ratings-

Much of Fox's programming is bad for people looking to have a fair and balanced view of the state of our union.

I regularly ponder why so many people are fans. I have drawn the following conclusions:

• They provide a whole lot of material to anyone who doesn't agree with the results of the last election and who is prone to getting angry about it
• They have a lot of unknown but extremely beautiful women reading the news and injecting fed up commentary throughout
• They utilize carefully and consistently placed icons/symbols typically associated with American patriotism and "Americana" and use rhetoric to match
• They make sweeping generalizations
• They demonize democrats
• Their production value, aestheticly speaking, is superior to anyone else
• They regularly quote people out of context
• They no longer shock me but continue to scare me (because they are so far out there sometimes)
• They scare their viewers (to keep them fed up, to keep them watching and as a call to action)

Geo, I would agree with this summation... plus you've observed even more points than I'd recognized.

For those of you out there who think it's only "liberals" who give out Thanks to this sort of post... I am proof that this is not the case.

Fox, and some of it's more strident devotees, are doing a great job of turning me off/away from my longtime party of registration. Just because I'm registered as a Republican does not automatically make me a fan of everything espoused by that party. Clearly I'm not a member of Fox' target audience regardless my party "affliciation".

I truly don't understand why we as citizens have to be registered with / attached to ANY party at all. Ever. For any vote... whether primary, general, or public opinion.

Seems about as pertinent as the person who once insisted on knowing my ethnic origin (albeit centuries ago) so they "slot" me: 'Ah... you're Scottish... no wonder moths fly out of your wallet on the rare occasions you open it'.

This is a great point imo. I used to be a donor to the Republican party - now I won't even pick up the phone when I see them calling. I do however give money to individual candidates and some of those candidates are not the ones picked by the Republican party establishment.

:roll: Compared to what exactly.. ;-) MSNBC? CNN? Comedy Central? CBS? ABC? NBC? HBO? PBS? New York Times? L.A Times? NPR? Newsweek? Time? Anything owned by NBC or Time Warner?

The *only* main stream media outlet available that isn't slanted to the left is Fox. You, like all liberals, are frightened to death of the popularity of Fox. I get that. For ages your political party has had a controlling grip on the public's source of the news. But with the advent of the internet and the Fox network, your party has completely lost that control. I can understand why that might scare the bajeezus out of you (the fairness doctrine is a good example of just how far your party will go to regain that control) but in the grand scheme of things, this change is a *good* thing. The news available to people today is far more "fair and balanced" than it has ever been in our history.
