we went to a little friend's birthday party yesterday, and it was so much funn! what a great idea for a party! audrey, the birthday girl, helped local wild animals by asking us to bring donations for animals cared for by Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge (destin, fl), in lieu of birthday gifts. meanwhile, an animal expert from ECWR came with a few animals and gave a wonderful presentation to the children about wild life in our area, what to do if you come across an animal in need (do not touch), and let them get a close up look at a beautiful bard owl named April, a little flying squirrel and others they have helped. what a wonderful way to educate children and help the animals.
children brought bags of food and supplies which the Refuge took back with them. also, all the children had their faces painted - there were lots of cats, tigers and spider girls and boys running around. the adorable homemade cake was topped with a hippo and tiger - both complete with pink tooling for tutus, and princess crowns!
the ECWR website includes a page for donations and supplies needed.
very nice to see first hand what a great organization we have in the area assisting wild life and educating citizens.
