I worked in Spartanburg, and can say that while there is a lot of money and new industry out there, there is nothing fun to do there, unless your idea of fun is going to a Woffard College football game.

Just north of TR, which is north of Greenville, is a great little town called Tuxedo, home of the Purple Onion, which is a cute little restaurant in the middle of the some of the most beautiful land in this Country. (I say that having traveled to all corners of the USA, except for Alaska and Hawaii.) The food is good, but the vibe is incredible.

If you go in the right time of the year, you can scoot up to Tryon, NC, for one of the biggest BBQ cook-offs in the USA. It is maybe an hour away, and is interesting if you have never been to a BBQ festival.

I drove through Greenville in August- took a wrong turn and ended up downtown. There is a fun looking revitalized area with restaurants, bars, shops, and galleries- I wish I could tell you what streets, but I was actually on my way to Tuxedo, so I had to keep moving!

Where is the Purple Onion? Tuxedo is not that big!

Hi YA'LL! hehe I'm looking forward to checking it out. I found quite a few pictures of the downtown area and it looks nice! It looks quaint and quiet which is what I'm about. When I was younger I was into the night life but I pretty much out grew that now that I'm a married old fogie..ha! I could have a job up there for a great salary but I don't want to leave the beach area here. Why leave paradise for good? I can always vacation in the Carolinas..ha!

That was a few months ago, and it was fun!

Smilng JOe, did you like The Beacon in Spartanburg? We went about twice the entire time we lived there. Not impressed, but some people adore it. It doesn't compare to the Varsity IMO. But maybe that's because I'm an Atlanta girl.

The best thing about Spartanburg was having the Blue Ridge Parkway nearby (as is Greenville) in the fall and driving up with a picnic lunch to enjoy the fall leaves. I do miss that.

Sorry, jdarg, I was mistaken. The Purple Onion is just down the street, in Saluda, NC.

(The Purple Onion)

BR, never heard of The Beacon, but mostly, I worked there, while living in the old part of Greenville, just south of Downtown.

anthony, there is a river which runs just to the east of downtown, and there is a nice park there with waterfalls. The Peace Center is also nearby with nice grounds.
