Well, one site I looked at on the web showed the average water temp for May around 78. Any chance of it being around that a month from now I hope? I look forward to our trip. Cannot believe we are doing it this early in the year but oh well, maybe we need to make a second trip in August also. It was a PC Beach website.

The operative word here is average. We have been coming in early/mid May for more than 15 years and I have never felt the water was too cold. Some years are warmer than others, but if the air temp is 80 or above, the gulf feels awfully good when you are in the hot sun.

So.....we'll be kicking it at Watersound two weeks from today. How's the water? The image below looks pretty encouraging. Not warm by any means, but tolerable on a hot day.

Wow ... that map scared us ....
Seriously though, this has been our experience:

A couple of weeks ago, we had some friends from Maine in town.
They got in the water in shorts .... so we figured if they could do it, we could ... and we did ... and after the initial shock, it was rather warm.

Fast forward to last weekend ... went down to surf ... and had to use the short suit ... the sun was out but it was very windy ... but if you are in the water and being active, you warm up quick ....

Today, the sun is out ... it was in the 80's yesterday ... think the water temp is somewhere around 71 degrees .... if it's not too windy, we would have no problem getting in the water on a sunny day like today ....

In 2 weeks, hopefully it will be just perfect!!!!!

That's a big image above. Sorry about that. If it can just get to around 76 or so by May 8, I'll be pretty happy. After 14 beers or so, I can't feel it anyway. ;-)

I doubt it the Gulf temp will rise that quickly that fast. Around noon, the Gulf water temp in BMB was around 69F degrees. Lakes are warming up and have surface temps around 73F degrees. Sun is out and warm enough to get your body temp back up after taking a dip in the Gulf.

Maybe my pinky toe thermometer needs to be re-calibrated. That water sure doesn't feel 75F degrees.
