Father's Day is hard for me too. Not just because I lost my dad when he was only 60. Not just because my son was just an infant and never got the chance to know him at all. Not just because sometimes I still need my dad.
Father's day is hard for me because it makes me remember our last conversation. He had just seen To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything,Julie Newmar. We didn't know he was going to have a stroke the next day. So the last time I talked to my dad, the last thing my dad (the greatest fisherman, former army medic, wealth of wisdom and information, fierce protector of all 5 of his children) said to me was "That John Lequizamo has some great legs!!!"

Thanks so much for posting that. You are SO right about spending time, asking questions and doing what HE might like. Sorry for your loss.

I too, lost my dad 3 yrs ago August. Lost him on the morning of my father in law's funeral. Rough time.

I would give anything to have one more day, 10 more minutes, anything! Sure, I have wonderful memories, but death is so final.

I miss him - we talked every day after my mother died. :sosad:

Here's a pic of me and my dad oh back in the late 60's I guess. He always wore a Japanese robe - he was stationed in Japan during the war. This was C'mas and our dog Pablo was modeling his Santa suit and me, my new coat. Great memories! Thanks again.

Well this seems like a good forum about everyone loosing their fathers....
I lost my dad 3 years ago at the age of 55 from a heart attack.

It's tough, and it does not get any easier as the years go on. All you can do is keep your head up and know that you need to do your best because the dads are still looking down on us!
Hope everyone enjoyed their sunny Sunday!

Oh gosh, that is so young! I am sorry for your loss.

We do still need them at times don't we? Your dad sounds amazing - I am sure you miss him as I miss mine. Sorry you lost him when he was still so young.

What a great story regarding last thing he said to you! I know you cherish that. Made me smile :D

Mom was visiting me my freshman year at Tulane. My 53-year-old Daddy stayed home to babysit my 8-year-old brother and 6-year-old sister. The morning after Mom arrived in NOLA, we got a phone call saying that Daddy had died in his sleep of a heart attack. Apparently my brother and sister were too young to know he was dead, so they were jumping up and down on the bed to wake him up. The yard man just happened to be there, and they ran outside and asked him to wake Daddy up because they wanted him to fix them some breakfast.

Mom and I just couldn't believe he had died. I mean, she had just seen him hours before that. He had never been sick a day of his life. Eastern Air Lines was kind enough to bump some people off their next flight to Atlanta so that we could get back ASAP. It wasn't until we saw him at the funeral home that we could believe he really was dead.

I was a Daddy's girl, so I took it very hard. He loved math, and he loved that I loved math. It's really sad that my brother and sister were so young that they don't really remember him. At least I have some wonderful memories of our Daddy.

I wish that my husband had gotten to meet Daddy. Big D and I were seriously dating at the time and were literally days away from them meeting.

My brother and sister remember nothing about family vacations, the good times, and how wonderful and well respected Daddy was. So I tell them stories about him.

The one we all like the best is the following. Daddy adored Mom. She was gorgeous, and he lavished her with gifts and beautiful clothing. But she has always been a handful (like Mother, like me ). He never let her get to him. When she was at her most annoying, the worst he would do was put down the AJC or WSJ and say in a calm voice, "Aw, hell, Macie!" Then he'd start reading again.:D
