My daughter is a Harry Potter fanatic. She says that the new movie is better than the previous times aleph-null. As an experiment, she wants us to watch the first four HP movies, then go see the new one. And re-read all of the books in our "spare" time.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

The latest had a different director and I bet that is part of the reason. The scenery and special effects are spectacular.

BR, have you seen any of the movies?

All of them except the newest one. My daughter owns them all, and we watch them while cooking or being lazy. The movies seem to keep getting better. Have seen HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban about 10 times.

How about you?

We've seen all the movies and my daughter has read all six books. I started out reading them to approve them for her to read. ( She read the first one in second grade) She passed me after the third book. I started the fourth and never finished it. After seeing the movie, I want more so I'm going to pick it up again. Then probably go see the movie again when it comes to the dollar show. :) My son has no interest right now in reading the books which is kind of sad...to him it's like why would I want to read the books if I already know what's gonna happen?

It's sort of like seeing the movie The Prince of Tides versus reading the book. The beauty of the words on the page entices your imagination and anticipation at a different level than having it spoon-fed to you on video. No matter how many times you've seen the movie, the words are better.

You are correct, sir!!! Interesting that you picked "The Prince of Tides"...one of my all time favorite reads. The movie so disappointed me....especially Barbra S...all I can remember are her fingernails!

As anyone seen a movie and then gone back and read the book? I don't think I could. So much of reading a book is the imagery in my HEAD(case). Darn, I wish I could talk about my brain without that headcase thing following me!!!

Oh no! It kinda made the book come to life. Although Ralph Fiennes can make about anything come to life!

The English Patient is one exception to my rule of preferring the book to the movie. The Lord of the Rings books are another; Tolkien went off on too many tangents.

I feel so out of it. I am home sick with the flu, it is raining buckets outside, and there was no opening night of Harry Potter here in Port St Joe.:D

My fourth grade teacher read the Narnia books to us, and my younger son's fourth grade teacher read the Potter books to them well before they became all the rage.

I know there is sort of a backlash against the Potter hype but I like the books; I do think they have encouraged children to read and explore other authors.

I can well understand how some would feel that putting these magical stories on film might well take some of the magic away. The Narnia books were so well written that they will always stand by themselves. Rowlings' creation, if not quite as stylish, is also memorable--seeing Harry fly astride Buckbeak was just plain awesome and more than justified making the movie.

All I can say is thank goodness for Netflix and DeepDiscountDVD.
