Now I am in Camera buying hell! I've fallen in love with an SLR, and I barely even know what that means

I stopped into a Ritz Camera after researching on Cnet (thanks for that site!) and I've fallen in love with the Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D, and in the process, almost tripled my original cap of $350. I can't help myself, the term
"anti-shake system" is just totally sucking me in.

I know this is foolish. Even though we have kids, I would say that 90% of my photos involve my dog in some way.......

And I KNOW I'm not alone in this
Go ahead, kickstart the economy!!!! If you don't need multiple lenses, you are overpaying. What's the saying? We buy with emotion, and later defend the purchase w/ logic.

We have a Fuji Fine Pix 2 Megapixel which takes pretty good pictures but we bought that around 3 or 4 years ago and paid around $280.00 for it then but you can get more megapixel for that price now! But we like the camera still. The pictures look good on the computer!

Russell is ADORABLE! SoWal pets make perfect Avatars indeed.

Pentax has a great line of cameras. I've used a Pentax Optio S4i for 2 years now - very durable, affordable, point-and-shoot and user friendly w/ many high-end features as well for when you're ready to try tweeking your shots. Ultra-compact too - practically fits in an altoid tin!

Check out reviews and pricing of the new Optio S5i at:

Pricing starts at $268.00

I have a Nikon 7900. I just got it in August but I think they've already come out with a newer model. I had the Konica-Minolta Z3 that had a better zoom but less pixels than the Nikon 7900 which has 7. I LOVE the size of the Nikon. I am a scrapbooker so having the ability to keep my camera with me at all times is important. I agree with Beach Runner about the Digital Rebel but I already had a Canon SLR that uses film and wanted something that I could take anywhere. I also bought our daughter a Nikon model this fall. Neither camera has let us down and I'm impressed with it's indoor photos which are sometimes hard to get with digital. Not all Nikon point and shoots are created equal though so make sure you read some reviews before buying. Good Luck!
