 You said it LL. This past September, at the age of 51, Mr. Sea Star and I found ourselves among the growing number of grandparents raising the grandchild. We literally received a 6 month old, out of the blue, with no advance notice. We were blown away (what's going to happen to retirement, etc.) but I wouldn't trade our little Sofia for anything in the world. We have survived, have a beautiful nursery, all the baby equipment we need, found a great day care so I can continue working, have developed a routine that works for us and I feel 20 years younger. Having a child at our age was never in our plans, but parenting is so much easier for us than it was when we were in our twenties. And when that alarm clock goes off, and I don't think I can get up and do it one more day, that beautiful smiling face changes my whole world.[/QUOTE]

Sea Star,

What a wonderful thing you are doing. Your grandchild is very blessed to have grandparents like you! Good Luck!

Note from LL's Chem Prof on every exam:
Every experiment does not include THE ADDITION OF BEER or THE CHEMICAL FORMULA FOR BEER! :rotfl:

:lolabove:

I tried to make beer in college and it tasted like crap. :puke:

Tangent: I'm about to walk into my last management meeting this morning. :clap_1: I'm not even sure why they asked me to come. :dunno:

Sea Star, I work in the court system and see this happening more and more often. One of my friends is also raising her grandchild, what a blessing this child has been to her. I commend you and your husband for undertaking something you never thought you would have to do. Just goes to show that we never know what the future has in store for us. Much success to you and your husband.

I made a C in chemistry at Auburn and I had never been so proud of myself. Little man slept all by himself last night. I had to wake him up this morning before I left for work. What's up with that? He must have been tired! I feel like a new man after that night of sleep.

Yea!!! Great news LL. Now when they get to be 12 they do not wake up so happy. My son and I had a trying morning..ugh I hate it when we have words before he leaves for school. Oh, this too shall pass I tell myself. Glad you got a good nights sleep!!!!!

Mine is a totallly different response than the others, so don't blast me for my opinion. Let the child sleep on a pallet by the bed. Then work him out of the room.. Both of my girls slept with us, and we DID find time for us :clap_1:. I asked a psychologist friend about it, and her response was that in many countries children sleeping with parents is normal and not uncommon. In our country it is taboo. We both worked, and losing a hour or two of sleep over crying was just not worth it. Both girls left of their own free will. I think back and realize (with both of them gone) that it was not so bad. They are very secure and self confident. Do what you need to do to survive.
We did this and actually kind of miss it now.

That's exactly what I did. The meeting lasted seven minutes. :rotfl:
