How do Republicans see 177 U.S. death occuring daily amongst those folks without health insurance..with their response being that (1) they are first of all just against it and (2) they don't have a single thing to offer as an alternative plan?

Who says those folks would have lived if they had insurance? Also, why don't they have insurance, and what in the Pelosi bill would address this?

While House leaders are moving toward a vote on health-care legislation by the end of the week, enough Democrats are threatening to oppose the measure over the issue of abortion to create a question about its passage.

House leaders were still negotiating Monday with the bloc of Democrats concerned about abortion provisions in the legislation, saying that they could lead to public funding of the procedure. After an evening meeting of top House Democrats, Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (Md.) said, "We are making progress," but added that they had not reached an agreement.

I agree with the moderate dems and republicans on this, just segregating funding isn't a viable option, as it's just a numbers trick. Since we have federal laws in place that restrict federal funding of abortion, any exchange plan that receives government subsidizies (probably all of them as that's all that will likely end up in the exchange), these plans should be stripped of abortion coverage all together. It's really the only way to remain within the law, unless the dems would like to go about changing the restriction laws currently in place.

It looks like a GOP plan is forthcoming at the same time as the Senate's plan. Any bets on number of pages? One item of note is that it will allow for insurance companies to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions, but set up high risk pools for those denied. From The Hill..

House Republicans are on the cusp of releasing their alternative healthcare bill, according to GOP leadership aides.
They are likely to release their bill when Democrats release the manager's amendment of their healthcare bill, according to aides familiar with the GOP strategy.

House Minority Leader John Boehner (Ohio) said on Monday that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has had a copy of the yet-to-be-seen bill for the past few days.

Republicans will be allowed to have a substitute on the floor but they must meet certain conditions, according to Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), including that the GOP release the bill 72 hours before a possible floor vote.

Boehner told reporters he was optimistic that Republicans would have their bill ready by the time Democrats introduce their final manager?s amendment.

?Assuming that they allow 72-hours for their managers amendment, I expect we?ll have our bill out there for 72-hours as well,? Boehner said.
