I find a phone book either at my mailbox or hanging on my gate minimum every 3 months! :pissed:

As much time as I spend in my front yard, I never seem to be able to catch the delivery culprit so I can throw the damn thing back in their truck. How many phone books do they think one household needs ?? I'd like to call every yellowpage advertiser and let them know exactly where their ad ends up. :bang:

Does it make sense that this should be set up like a do not call listing? I would sign up for a service that phone books are not to be delivered to my address.

It would save millions of trees and all those people being duped into thinking that millions of people are reading their advertising can finally see some real numbers of who is really reading them and who are using them as garden bedding or landfill materials and perhaps make better business decisions that the GIGO they are being fed right now.

It is just sad that nothing can be done to stop this tsunami of worthless paper books.

It's that time of the year again, the annual *$#^!fest about phone book delivery begins. I have also received my designated quota of books and am quite happy. My ads are done to my satisfaction and the price was right. For approximately $20,000 per year MY (not the company selling me the ad) estimated ROI is around 10 times my initial costs. I also advertise in other markets and they seem to work very well also. I have used this tool to grow my business for many years. There seems to be a assertion that those who advertise in these books are being "duped". I don't need to have "millions" of people to read my ads and call. Just a few. To be sure, the way these are delivered and the number of companies (Embarq, AT&T, Talking, etc.) producing these books is a bit annoying. Is there waste? Yes, and if I owned these companies I would take measures to alleviate some of the problems mentioned above. Just try and be more careful when you disparage other peoples means of income ( the buyer or the seller). We all can't live in a perfect "green" world, connected endlessly to the internet, and with plenty of time on our hands to judge other people or things we know very little about. The fact you don't like something or it annoys you is not enough.

Other than to pick it up and toss it in the recycling bin, I can't tell you the last time I touched a phone book. I can find everything I need online. Not knocking anyone's income but I would think that advertising monies would go further and be more effective in another media. But, I don't know everything either and will be the first to admit it.

I don't have a problem with a business choosing to advertise in the phone book - I have a problem with unwanted phone books vastly outnumbering the people, phones, or the days of the week at my address.

I especially have a problem with the dumping of multiple phone books at deserted apartment/condo lobbies or in dumpsters just to get rid of them.

I'm old school - I still have a landline and first look for a number in a phone book - but I certainly don't need more than one phone book (and especially not more than one COPY of a particular book) to do so!!!

And what sort of business do you have?

I have four businesses at this time, to include sales and implementation (project management and logistical support software),a data management and storage facility, capital and investment consultant to British and Danish governments (for Americans who want to do business in these countries) and also import textiles and industrial products from these countries. I do most of my business out of Atlanta and Miami, but I live and have a home on 30A.

Well, we are all familiar with the ridiculous number of phone books being thrown off the back of a truck,,,, but how about these damn Walton Suns?!! I swear, they litter my entire street. Whoever delivers them must have to get rid of a certain quantity, and that doesn't necessarily mean throwing them at legitimate stops. EVERY SATURDAY there are papers thrown at houses obviously shuttered up because they are vacation homes, or anywhere there is a break in the road (mock driveway), or just plain in the middle of the road. Anyone else sick of the reckless delivery of the useless papers?
