mr. yum and i had a bad experience tonight. were scoping it out for a family get-together in april. we always enjoyed the smaller version when it was in seaside, and tried it once at the new location last fall. however . . . .tonight was just awful. we were there early - before there was much of a crowd. service was just dreadful, food was skimpy. we want to like it - should we try again??? :dunno:

I had lunch there a couple of weeks ago and it was very good. Their special was a crayfish and blue cheese bisque and I could have licked the bowl. They are trying to hire more peeps according to their post on this board and it is spring break. Just my .02.

This is another one of my favorite places. Everything I've ever had there has been good and their oyster and beer "Happy Hour" is wonderful! But then, I'm not as hard to please as some but still want good service and fine food. As Franny says, it is spring break. Give them a break.

Go back. The place is great. The food is amazing. AND they have a happy hour!! (which is almost unheard of on 30A!!)

Yummy,

I am truly sorry to hear about your poor experience at Hurricane Oyster Bar yesterday. It is true, we are extremly short staffed and Monday was a trying day all around. I don't plan to offer any other excuses as I don't believe they justify your poor experience. I hope that you will try us again as I believe that we are a great place for locals & visitors to enjoy an affordable meal.

As for our loyal SOWAL customers, thank you for your continued support and feedback. It is your comments that have helped us make many needed changes and hopefully we will continue to improve!
If at any time ANY of you have a poor experience please ask for myself (Atha) or Dave Phillips. We can only take care of problems that we know about. Thanks again everyone & we hope to see you again Yummy!

I've had good experiences the 2 times I was there for lunch. I would give them one more shot and decide after. I give a place the 3 times and your out test before I decide whether or not to return. And some places do lunch better than dinner and vice versa. I've not tried dinner there so don't have an opinion.

I'm probably going to stir the pot here by saying this but I really can't stand when I hear the "it's spring break, give them a break" type of comments. It is a poor excuse for bad planning as all restaurants in SoWal are experiencing Spring Break crowds right now, like every other year. When people vacation, they will give you only one shot usually - you need to be on top of your game at all times, at all times of the year.

I have seen some local restaraunts actually keep empty tables because they do not have the staff to work them. People on a wait were told "Yes, we have empty table but no one to serve them, by waiting we can assure you good service as we are short staffed at the time"

I would give Hurricanes another chance. Everyone has an off day every once in a while....

Bummer about your experience, but I certainly vote to give the another shot. I love that place...

I have a suggestion though... I saw a couple of people hit their head on those lights in the main dining room three times in one meal.
OUCH!

Maybe raise them?

i totally agree. i think we will try it again (just the two of us) but pass on using it as a place for the family gathering - just in case. i also agree about the pass (not) for spring break. that being said, in reference to h.o.b. owner/manager (see post above), we didn't want to make a fuss or even a complaint last night - we had gathered the info we needed for the decision we have made, and because we agree that everyone has bad days, etc etc, we didn't feel that we needed to add to it. an fyi might be for management to be more aware of what is going on on the floor - it was NOT crowded, and our situation would have been easily discernible.
