To answer your original question Geo - I don't know of any good candidates right now for 2012. I don't know of many good politicians to be honest. Washington is a soup of corruption and infighting run by people completely isolated from reality. It's a mess, and I don't think any one person can fix it.

Then, the single person shouldn't say he/she will.

Obama is a nice guy pushover, that's the main problem I have with him.

I disagree, despite the Republican's stonewalling he is getting legislation passed. Compromise is not being a pushover, but being realistic and effective if not perfect.

I hope I'm being too hard on him. You are right about the Republican stonewalling. Obama just seems so surprised when the Repubs are totally uncooperative time and time again. He never seems prepared for it.

I'm still convinced by far I voted for the best candidate, and in 2012 he may be the best again. Hey, we got 2 supreme court justices out of him. Can't complain about that.

I am convinced Obama's primary political instinct is to compromise & give all parties part of a loaf. That's the way he learned "to do politics" in Chicago: exchanging favors, tit for tat, you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours, logrolling, etc.

He continued his predecessor's policies in bailing out banks & autos; he kept his predecessor's SecDef; he accepted a boatload of the other party's ideas/amendments on Health Care, he's trying to continue his predecessor's policy on immigration reform; he continued his predecessor's policy on rendition/military tribunals/The Patriot Act.

I think candidate Obama really thought he could make all parties in Washington reasonably happy via compromise. However, he found an environment in D.C. opposed to compromise.

He found a country in trouble. A little compromise & working together by all in D.C. might be a welcome change.

I may be too wishy-washy (dare I present, an attempt to be learn open-mindedness?) to say I'm CONVINCED. However, I appreciate your post and am finding myself inclined to agree.

Kinda analogous to the reality of marriage, family, etc? The continuously growing relationships evolve through an everlasting series of compromises (aka flipping, scratching one another's back , exchanging of favors)?

I would like to understand others' opinions of our apparent national expectation that our elected officials should never modify their stance on issues... 'cuz that wouldn't strike me as a positive in my personal world so why should it be desired in a public forum?

Obama doesn't have enough sense to see it's time for a divorce.

I figured you didn't know what you were talking about, simply parroting the madcap rants from Dailykos or some such. Poppy wanna cracker? Awwk!

Ha ha ha you are a funny guy, excuse me while I wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes. Hang on I've almost got it-just a little more-there I'm ready. Whew! that was a good one. Now since you haven't supplied a number or anything else I'll assume you don't know jack, if you you do please share. At the time I posted I had read different claims with the numbers ranging from 10,000 to 120,000 so I truly don't know. I've also read different estimates the disaster could cause the loss of up to 1,000,000 jobs not related to the oil industry if it isn't stopped, many of those right here in our area. This number is likely high but then again no one seems to really know because this is far from over. My problem with Jindal is he seems to be mostly concerned with the oil industry jobs while the fisherman and others who make their living directly or indirectly from the gulf are going downhill fast. My concern is the damage being done locally so maybe we are both being selfish. I don't read the Dailykos or sites like that and I'm not on the internet every day but when I am, for news I read CNN, MSNBC and Fox and whatever links are related to the articles on those sites. If you can find time to refrain from your false assumtions and silly accusations I would like to ask you again to please educate me with whatever knowledge you claim to have on the subject.

The decision re whether to have a moratorium on deep water drilling is a Hobson's choice: damned if you do & damned if you don't. Jobs are temporarily lost w/ a moratorium, but can you imagine the criticism the president would get if he allowed deep water drilling to go on apace & ANOTHER leak sprung?!? EVERYONE would then say that he'd made the wrong decision. Hopefully, the job disruption is temporary. Hopefully, the damage to our Gulf, our beaches, our ecosystem is temporary. I think the president has made the right decision for the long run.
