Never thought I would say this but I'm beginning to have some grudging respect for Obama as I think he is sincere about changing things but as long as he has the likes of Pelosi, Reid, Dodd etc. to deal with he is in for a harder time than necessary from the Republicans. A bad thing for the folks when we need it least. An attitude of "We wrote it and we won" doesn't smack of bipartisanship to me.

Why is this surprising? I have no problem with pouring lots of cash into preventative medicine (and I am betting that '$335 million fro STD prevention' is a gross simplification of the actual funds allotment) which is a good investment. But the job description of a congressperson as dictated in the Constitution and that as percieved by the politicians and those they represent are two wholly different matters. Somebody can look up article whatever in the great document and list it here;the reality is that we count on congresspeople to bring home the federal bucks, and we reward them with votes when they successfully do so. They like our votes, so they bring home the bacon. So who is culpable, the politicians who do what we want or we the voters who have them trained like mice looking for cheese in a maze!?

By the way, SOWAL's congressman Allen Boyd was one of the Democrats voting against the stimulus bill. Anyone care to discuss this?

I am just concerned that there is not enough money in modernizing and streamling our medical records system, as this will help set a firmer stage and help facilitate our Universal healthcare system that is around the corner!

Besides, not every one of the 6,000, newly unemployed Microsoft executives are cut out to build or repair national highways.

"Dig, baby, dig!"

If universal healthcare becomes a reality I hope someone has a mega stimulus package on hand because the government will need it very quickly.

My only complaint about Nancy Pelosi is that she really does need to cool it with the botox--I can't tell from her facial expressions if she is happy, scared, being sacastic, etc. Even when she is drifting off to sleep ..her eyes stay open!!!!!!:lolabove:

You do realize Obama doesn't support universal healthcare, just subsidized government funded healthcare that competes with the private sector? He has no mandate, and he isn't socializing the system.

Fooled again! Darn him then--between that and not getting us outta Iraq quicker, I am getting a bit disappointed.

Skunky,

I believe there is a distinct difference that should be made in the stimulus bill and stimulus bill programs. It is not whether or not a program is good or bad as that is what the typical appropriations process is for and will be underway in about 30 days. For the stimulus package, I believe the items should be based on whether or not they have the likelihood of being truly stimulative (or at least meeting President Obama's criteria). The problem with items like these are that they are forwarding the agenda of a party using a politically expedient vehicle.

I would be glad to join you and others in a discussion on earmarking and the federal budget process or the stimulus process as I have spent a good amount of time recently on both. I just believe they are mutually exclusive and the stimulus bill should be more restrictive, and the validity of the agenda programs should be discussed as part of the typical appropriation process and 12 bills that make up that process.

I am curious, seeing as how the stimulus packages that are being proposed and those already in the system, how do you feel about the banks/ financial folks who took money to bail them out of their failures, receiving bonuses for the successful raids on our money. :yikes:The excuse for the bonuses are that these folks are worth keeping and without the bonuses they will leave. Where will they go?:dunno: Jobs are being cut all over and besides that if they were any good their banks/ financial companies would not be choking on the debt they created, would they? :bang:There are some folks around here that think Unions are bad, If those guys have a union I want in that one.:D
