...but all the papers (tons of them) that we signed say "SANTA ROSA BEACH." Our condo is one of the little studios at Hidden Beach Villas, approximately one mile east of Seaside, across from the Palms. I thought that was Seagrove!

My mother wants to send me her steamer so I can get the 20 year old wallpaper off the bathroom walls. This is important! It needs to get to the right town or I might still be stripping at Christmas.

Do we have a place in Santa Rosa Beach or Seagrove Beach? Does the mailman care?

Your mailing address city is Santa Rosa Beach 32459, and it sure beats the heck out of your 30-A neighbors to the east whose mailing address city is Panama City Beach.

In real language, Seagrove Beach is like a neigborhood and Santa Rosa Beach is the town. Other neighborhoods like Seaside, WaterColor, Seacrest, Rosemary Beach, etc try to create these microtowns which confuses the heck out of most people who do not live here.

Okay, I get it now. It's exactly like Indianapolis, then. We live in a neighborhood in the city called Meridian-Kessler, to the side of us is Butler-Tarkington, and to the north of us, Meridian Hills. And it's all still under the blanket of "Indianapolis." I hadn't realised that 30-A was the same. No wonder we love 30-A so much: it really is a home away from home, with better weather and views! :clap_1:

Yes, it's very interesting, isn't it? I was surprised to say the least when closing papers for our Seacrest house said "Panama City Beach." After all the last thing we wanted to be was a spring break destination. :laughing1

Are Seaside addresses Seaside or SRB, since Seaside has its its own post office? And I think Rosemary Beach has its own zip too while its unwashed neighbors get PCB. What about Alys Beach? WaterColor? I sense post office envy ...

Seaside, WaterColor and Rosemary Beach each have their own Post Office. More name branding at work.

What also confuses people is the fact that Santa Rosa Beach is not in Santa Rosa County and that Ft. Walton Beach is not in Walton County. I've emailed CNN about at least two news stories in which they showed photos from SoWal and said they were from Ft. Walton Beach.

The 32459 really confuses delivery people. I was expecting a UPS delivery, and the truck driver kept calling me and saying that he was in Santa Rosa Beach, but couldn't find my house. He couldn't understand that Seagrove Beach has the Santa Rosa Beach zip code, but is miles down the road from Santa Rosa Beach. Finally I just got in my car and tracked down his truck.

When we first built at Grayton we received our mail in one mailbox (like rural route carriers use) and the address was:

Your name
Grayton Beach
Pt. Washington, FL (probably no zipcode)

All the mail for anyone at Grayton was delivered to this one box and we would check it daily for mail from "home". We didn't know we had a street address until just a few years ago; that's when we found out the streets actually had names.

Things have certainly changed, but the beauty of the water, sand, and lakes remain.
