Thanks Beach Runner!
Here are distance and time details, starting at the 10th Street exit. BTW the reason I have the warning about Elba is that we got stopped there three times in one year. Occasionally they have roadblocks to check license, registration, insurance, and probably DUI. The worst place is when you're heading into Elba on your way back to ATL. There's a downhill stretch of road with a 25 mph speed limit. The only way you can go that slowly is to park on your brakes. We've been stopped there.

BTW watch it in Samson, too, although not as bad as Elba.

We live in Atlanta and always go the route:
I-85 to I-185
Phenix City
Eufala, AL
Dothan,AL
I-10 W to Defuniak Springs (exit 85)
South to the coast.

325 miles and 5 hours if you are keeping a good clip.
Only 16 miles of 2 lane before getting off at Defuniak Springs

Try Finding the best driving directions to South Walton from Atlanta!!!

In fact I am doing this as we speak, I do not want make so many turns on roads which have multiple names in Alabama, just a few straight shot roads and that is all.

If you guys would start a new thread on directions, maybe other newbies could more easily find the thread.

Good idea, JOe. Amazing the tangents we get on, though. :D
