I've done the boat architecture tour of Chicago and a bus one. Loved it! When I've traveled with hubby on business, I always do arch tours and visit art museums while he's working. Beach Jacket really has an advantage as an art major in that she's seen so much of the world's fine art and architecture.Scooterbug -- I've been wanting to do a train trip forever. Here's the trip I've planned -- get on the train in NOLA, and head up to Chicago. Spend a couple of days in Chicago -- take the boat tour of architecture, do the foodie restaurants, then fly home.
Our architect taught a Louisiana architecture class at Tulane that I took when I was a student there. We did walking tours of many areas of NOLA -- the French Quarter, the upper Garden District, the lower Garden District, etc. We also did bus tours to the plantation houses. Dr. Wilson had renovated many of the homes that were private residences, so we had the opportunity to go inside those. One of our classmates inherited Evergreen Plantation, so we got to go inside there as well. Dr. Wilson always had a keg of beer on the bus, so we always had lots of fun. It was my most memorable class from college because he had written so many books about Louisiana architecture. He was like a walking history book.
