I'll sometimes get seasick on smaller boats...and since we'll be doing some catamaran excursions on the cruise next week , I took the advice of some friends and tried out a sample of Bonine last night (the "less drowsy" dramamine) to see how it affected me before using it on the ship. OMG. LESS drowsy? Than what, a coma? Mr Blue could not wake me up this morning, even at 10am!! He put a cup of hot coffee in my hand ....and i FELL ASLEEP holding it. Didnt spill it though, because I am still so out of it I can barely move...it's like rigor mortis. It's taking eveything I have to type this, and retype it for legibility. Man, I knew I was a lightweight, but this is ridiculous.

It's past lunch time and I still can barely funtcion. Must less pack, which is still not completed --and we leave tomorrow. Not sure why I felt the need to share this, but hey, it's the lounge, and I'm out of my head. Stupid Bonine. I thought it was just a mild antihistimine...

OMG...I was just thinking about getting some of the less drowsy stuff myself! I think I have tried the less drowsy Dramamine and I did okay. I'll be on boats as well....:puke: and I never know when it will hit. I guess you have found yourself a good sleeping pill.

Did you see the Myth Busters episode where they tested seasickness remedies? The only thing that worked without side affects was ginger pills. My husband (who also get very seasick) tried the ginger pills and they did work. He did get sick at the very end of his 5+ hour fishing trip, but he tooks the pills before the trip and should have taken another dose after 4 hours.

Has anyone tried ginger pills?

I just read the same thing (about ginger). Might have to run to the health food store later...when (if?) I can ever drive again...definitely won't get behind a wheel just yet..

Also, they say theres a spot on your wrist about 1 to 1.5 inches from your wrist crease...if you press it hard, it's known to relieve nausea from the sea, morning sickness, food poisoning, etc. Also good for migraines. Will be trying that. Sounds like a good thing to know in general.

I feel sorry for you KB! About the pressure point on your wrist. I have heard that you can buy bracelets with a little ball in it that fit's right on the pressure point on your wrist. I have heard they work, but I have never tried it. Maybe they have them at the health food store. Hope you wake-up soon!! Have a safe trip!

I have used ginger pills for years

We sail and if we are overnight on the boat and I wake up a little sick - I pop a ginger pill - It really seems to help.

Also - if you can stand the look of it - pickled ginger in a jar is good when you are already sick. But some people can't look at it - much less eat it.

Good thing you passed this along. It may save someone from being in a coma too. I have heard ginger tea works well for nausea. Keep drinking plenty of fluids to flush your system. Sorry you got so narcotized when you needed to be packing.
