I remember when we first discovered "Bonefish": what a great, unique restaurant. Oops, it's a chain. Later on we discovered "Cantina Laredo": wow, what a great, new, unique restaurant. Oops, it's a chain. Hoe dare they make chain restaurants that serve consistently great food at reasonable rates! Shame!

I honestly think food can taste different depending on preconceived notions. I think if you took a good chain restaurant and disguised it as a local bistro or hole in the wall, a lot of chain detractors would rave about it. It would be a great social experiment. Part of the dining experience is bragging rights over some place that you and a few others have "discovered" and it becomes a "best kept secret". Chain restaurants on the other hand, nobody goes there, they're too crowded.

Good point LS.

I dont boycott anything. Gotta get gas at Tom Thumb. I can't exist without my Publix. I despise Smallmart but will go
If I have to. I like having Subway nearby. I don't miss fast food chains but occasionally stop at one in destin or PCB.

I am with you BR. I prefer our local places. But not to the exclusion of all other choices. Good Apples is a great little local place to eat. Subway is just next door. And Brunos Pizza. I think we like having good choices.

There have been several stretches when the Ft. Walton Beach Red Lobster has been bizarrely good. The management realizes they've got to compete with the local restaurants.

As long as the food is good and you are treated right ,what difference does it make? Patronizing any place is helping someone make a living.I eat at some chains, won't step foot in others ,but when I'm on vacation I always eat local.

Since you are not boycotting Tom Thumb and Publix, what's the point? The only other chain I can think of is Subway (very small sign) and the totally obnoxious Snappy Turtles. These kind of stores are a threat to what we want Seagrove to remain.

Speaking of Snappy Turtles...has anyone noticed the carnival-like atmosphere they've created at the Seagrove location between Cassine Station and Cassine Gardens? The ice cream shop was a fun addition, and I didn't mind the bicycle rentals. But in the last few days they've put up a bounce house and some cheesy other blow up pool with these big balls that kids can supposedly get into and play in the blow up pool. It's beginning to look like Panama City Beach back there!! We came to SoWal to get away from this stuff!!! I hope this isn't the future of SoWal!

Would it surprise you to learn that the coffee you've been drinking is actually Taster's Choice?

Exactly, and fancy bottled water is another one. You could fill the bottle with water from the toilet tank and chill it. Nobody would know the difference.

If you want to kill more time, go to the 322nd thread on "bicyclers on 30-A", and around and around we go...

I don't think so. There was a boil water advisory in Seagrove. Our dog doesn't drink a lot of water. She was sucking down Dasani like crazy. When the advisory was over, she drank water at her usual pace.

If a dog knows the difference, ...

But this is tangential to the thread.
