Because they are shooting at the helicopters.

Well someone needs to take out the shooters, so that thousands of people can survive.:bang: The choppers were probably getting shot at when they dropped leaflets on other countries. Let's drop some canned tuna on the thugs and then other people can eat the tuna without incident.

Glad they are safe. What an experience. Why didn't they evacuate? I read some people didn't think it would affect them if they were several miles inland. ( Bret Farve's mother for one)
Thousands didn't evacuate because they don't have cars. They didn't evacuate because they wouldn't have the money to pay for gas or a motel room. The poverty in NOLA is tragic and has been so for years.

If the 1 or 5 man reporter team had supplies they would be mobbed. When a chopper lands or hovers and starts off loading they are mobbed. Understandable, but they even out govt or any other govt is not able to make available all the supplies needed at one time.

When the Tsunomi (sp? I know I'm the worst:blush: ) hit it was days and weeks before supplies were delivered to all those in need. I don't have alot of good things to say about our government but I bet they do a better job than any other country on the face of this earth. Would you trust the Russian govt to respond fast? How abou the China? Germany? France?

Just my .02

Let's load the thugs in the aircraft and drop them off in Iraq where they can shoot at the terrorists.

This is the quote of the day (yesterday!) for me...as well as SJ's response.

Yesterday our local media reported that displaced people are coming to Louisville, and in fact some are already at one of the missions. A population segment that is not getting as much "TV time" is the elderly, and as the weeks go on, these people will be filling beds all over the place, including here. I am trying to find out if any are here yet, or when they are arriving, and will be helping them any way I can.

I can't imagine how scared some of these old people are without their family, friends, stuff, the familiarity of their nursing homes and caregivers, etc. Please consider visiting and helping someone else's parent or grandparent when you are considering your volunteer options.
