i remember when i was young, when my cousins and i aggravated our older cousins, they used to say they would call charles manson to come and get us because he was getting out of prison on parole... my mom used this a few times too and it worked - we straightened right up !

. Certainly wish it could be more carefree for my kids today. Just the thought of them being able to play outside all day w/ out fear would be great!!

I lament the fact that I can't just let my kids "run around the neighborhood" like I used to do. My folks never knew where we were, and we knew our limits and stuck to them. When was the last time you drove around and saw kids playing football, or soccer, or kick the can, or wiffle ball? Hardly ever. Kids don't do those type things anymore. Everybody is to busy with organized activities, little league etc.,. I think this sucks for my kids. I don't know the answer, but I wish we(society) could start moving back towards that era. Unfortunately, there is no turning back now. Sad.

The pet food companies actually do have to design their products so that they're safe for short term human consumption because of the problem of toddlers getting into the bowl of dog kibble. (there are some minerals and such that make long term consumption a bad idea though)

As for kids at play, one of the selling points of our area was the ample presence of free range children. We figured it was one of the signs of a healthy neighborhood.

I think the blue cheese is bad for preggers because it's mold.
maybe---- i thought I knew all the precautions! I just went over them w/ my sis last night after she announced I would finally be an AUNT!! So, I guess I will add blue cheese to the list.

And Chick Magnet, I think you are right about little league, wow does it take the time away from free play. (I really like Charlotte Mason's theory of learning w/ kids and that is that they learn better from free play, or somewhat directed free play). Our family will have had ball games, or practice every night (including the weekend) this week..... ughhhhh

I don't think I have ever seen lightning bugs in sowal at least not in large numbers. Has anyone else?

I have! near Pt Washington, literally hundreds , one evening under the big oak trees all floating and twinkling off and on....it was truly magical!
