I am looking at options for our small den. It is the only room left in the house with carpet (which I dislike very much with pets). It is a concrete slab underneath because it is a converted carport. I have been told that a subfloor and real hardwood should not be done because it can warp, etc. over time. Someone has suggested the woodlike laminate. After researching a little....I found the Dupont Real Touch elite which has some great reviews as far as look and durability. Does anyone have any experience with this type of flooring that can help me with my decision?

Thanks!

We put laminate flooring in both our basement rec room and our condo, both of which have a concrete subfloor. Everything's holding up great. It's easy to take care of, resists scratches and gouges, and withstands lots of abuse *er, teenage children*. Plus, it's no trouble to install. We did both jobs ourselves.

We installed it in our basemnet. Hated the old carpet for the same reasons you stated. LOVE the laminate flooring! Great with the dogs and easy clean up! Took us about 2 weekends. We were rookies though.

We put Pergo in our basement (concrete floor) and it did great! As hard as the kids tried, they couldn't hurt it. Plus, I liked the way it felt barefoot

Yes! Why do we not have basements here in Texas? Have always wondered that??????

Tamara: I have laminate in my kitchen. On top of concrete slab. Like it ok. Just put vinyl planks in laundry room. Like them much better....much quieter.

Such a good question my little pal! I guess it is because it is just so refreshing to go up in the attic right now to put up the suitcases, why would we want to just go down the stairs and store stuff?

Back to floors...I just needed to whine.

No kiddin'!! My attic is about 150 degrees--no lie! And, I think our downstairs a/c is on it's last legs. Haven't broken that news to mr. dd, who is out mowing as I type. He will be so overjoyed with the news...

Sorry, Tamara--back to floors.

I put laminate flooring in my previous house and did not care for them. Unfortunately, my dog got sick at her stomach and of course it was on the laminate. The laminate buckled between the boards and never really went back to normal.

I put engineered (real wood made to lay on concrete slab) floors in my current house and love it! The kind I have are made from Bruce Hardwood Floors.
