Typically, the hotel rooms for guests with dogs don't get rented to guests without dogs. The rooms are usually located at the end of the hotel, opposite from the front desk. I'd bet that just like they have a certain number of handicap parking spaces, they have a limited number of rooms that they reserve for guests with dogs.

Yeah, I think most hotels do segregate because I have been told they are out of pet friendly rooms before when they still had human vacancies.

Whew...that's good to know! (I'm sure your dogs are all lovely, by the way, but I'm picky about who sleeps in my bed.)

My allergies are having an anxiety attack. Do the pet-friendly hotels segregate their rooms, like the smoking/non-smoking hotels? What if I come in the next night and die of an allergy-induced asthma attack? I'm skeered...

More importantly, will these hotels discriminate against the people who want to bring in a 100+ lb. cat?

i take my liger everywhere i go....:dunno:

I take mine with me. There are dog-friendly hotels and you can find lists of them by googling "dog-friendly hotel."

 I knew SJ would have the answer. I've slept in my car with my dogs in the fall/winter....Doug, Kalie and I drove 7 days from here to Akumal, Mexico. They have very pet friendly hotels in Mexico!

We have always taken our goldens everywhere we go, actually our previous golden was the reason we purchased in South Walton. We hated boarding her and Lexi has never seen the inside of kennel. Boating is not a problem either, they jump right on the boat once we get on. They ride on our golf cart to the store etc. Traveling with pets is soooo much easier than leaving them at home.

Hi Minnie: good thread! we could all use updated info on pet travel. I absolutely love to take Lulu (85 lb yellow lab) on vacation - she is an important member of the family after all. and we have never used a kennel, but I think this option is a good one given the right facility. The key to travel with Lulu is doing lots and lots of homework ahead of time to find the right place to stay. I don't like to stay in a hotel with her because it just doesn't feel right leaving her there when we're out and about (but we have stayed in hotels and it works out okay). I usually find something more spacious and private, like a house or condo. It's not easy, but you can find pet friendly places. sometimes you have to just call these places because some say they are not pet friendly but they may be willing to do business on a case by case basis.

There are times we hire someone to stay with Lulu in our home while we're away. or she goes to stay with her grandparents.

Thanks Tootsie. That is the reason we crate trained ours. She sleeps in her crate, we call it her condo, as it is huge, and she is always happy to go anywhere her crate goes.

In fact sometimes during the day, I will be cleaning and come back and find her in there asleep.
