Typically, the hotel rooms for guests with dogs don't get rented to guests without dogs. The rooms are usually located at the end of the hotel, opposite from the front desk. I'd bet that just like they have a certain number of handicap parking spaces, they have a limited number of rooms that they reserve for guests with dogs.
Yeah, I think most hotels do segregate because I have been told they are out of pet friendly rooms before when they still had human vacancies.
Whew...that's good to know! (I'm sure your dogs are all lovely, by the way, but I'm picky about who sleeps in my bed.)

I knew SJ would have the answer. I've slept in my car with my dogs in the fall/winter....Doug, Kalie and I drove 7 days from here to Akumal, Mexico. They have very pet friendly hotels in Mexico!
we could all use updated info on pet travel. I absolutely love to take Lulu (85 lb yellow lab) on vacation - she is an important member of the family after all. and we have never used a kennel, but I think this option is a good one given the right facility. The key to travel with Lulu is doing lots and lots of homework ahead of time to find the right place to stay. I don't like to stay in a hotel with her because it just doesn't feel right leaving her there when we're out and about (but we have stayed in hotels and it works out okay). I usually find something more spacious and private, like a house or condo. It's not easy, but you can find pet friendly places. sometimes you have to just call these places because some say they are not pet friendly but they may be willing to do business on a case by case basis.
