Any worker who is worth their salt would be wise to start looking for a new job the same day. If they find a new job they have a business decision to make. Is the new employer a better fit for them and their future or should they stay where they are? I think many will take new positions and some of them will find that they made the wrong decision. I'd probably leave in hopes of being better off. I know now that if I would have invested in being more productive and a better employee to one of my previous employers I would be better off right now.

I suspect that some of the good employees who aren't saddled with a mortgage will find this as an omen to pack up and leave Florida all together. Those who are jusk eeking by with a mortgage are going to be crushed.

Between this, serious security problems at the Emerald Grande and the layoffs less than two weeks before Christmas last year, at this point, I'm not sure why Legendary would continue to be a desirable place to work if you're going to have a career in that field.

Beachmouse, what kind of security problems are they having?

There is more to it than reducing salaries and hourly payroll costs 25%. They are banking on a number of people leaving which will reduce the number of workers and what they pay them. So, when the season starts they will not have to pay as much as this year and will ask the employees who stayed to do more work for less pay. Brilliant!

Perfect. The economy is down, prices of everything is up, talk of increased taxes to cover the cost of war, and companies have to cut employees and or wages in order to stay alive.

Rheffron sounds like he/she knows how the cutting salaries works. If the business cuts the salaries, rather than laying people off, Legendary doesn't have to pay unemployment to the staff whom they let go. If they fire the staff, Legendary has to pay a substantial amount of the unemployment pay to those people.

I read today that popular real estate website company, www.zillow.com, was cutting 25% of their entire staff. Nascar is also taking a huge hit, with pricey advertising (on the cars) being the first thing for large companies to cut with an chainsaw. The halt on spending in America seems to be crunching everyone. I was talking with the owner of several car dealerships this morning, and they told me that their finance company was not lending money to people with excellent credit, for auto loans. Their sales stopped a couple of months ago.

 All I can say is "holy crap."
 Is your comment a reflection back on Bos' statement of what he wanted people to say when they entered the restrooms at Emerald Grande? I believe he used the other word to describe the Wow factor he wanted to impress upon guests and owners.

Ya know, when I first read this article I wasn't quite sure what to think about them cutting pay 25%...only "holy crap" came to mind. My heart goes out to the hard-working folks on the bottom rung of the pay scale whose percentage of basic living expenses is a huge slice of their take-home pay in relation to "upper management."

I envision the meeting between Bos and the "management" folks went something like this.

Bos: Lookee here folks--the economy is going into the crapper and revenue is drying up...I've gotta make some cuts somewhere so here's your two options:

Option #1: We cut 25% of the staff and you guys are gonna have to pull double shifts and hump bags, clean the pool and scrub the toilets....OR

Option #2: We cut 25% of everyone's paycheck and you can keep all your "family members" on board to do these menial tasks.

Management: If we cut their pay, what will we do to keep them from quitting?

Bos: Just tell them that if they quit, we'll blackball them from ever working here again.

Management: If they quit anyway what will happen?

Bos: Then we revert to Option #1
