Lost in the world
Are really saying you can't think of one thing the government does right?

Holidays? :dunno:

I know, get a real job. Anyway, no entity of the government that I've ever dealt with has been very competent.

28 years around the military. Certainly not competent. Especially with money.

INS. Family moved here in 1961. The lost our records for 16 years.

IRS. I currently owe them money. In 2014, they can't manage to deduct money directly from my account. 6 letters, two trips to Panama City, and umpteen phone calls. Abysmal.

I deal with TRICARE, which is managed by a civilian contractor. When it was CHAMPUS, managed by the government, you'd probably die first.

To be fair, I mostly like the parks department.

Suggestions?

EDIT: FDIC works.

Whether you think it's cost effective or not, let's be honest about one thing, the postal service is awesome. I've ordered lots of things online and have received them very quickly most of the time with no shipping charge. UPS is pretty good, and they have better tracking than the postal service. So far FEDEX has been the worst except for when they work with the postal service via smart post.

I shipped a Priority Mail package from here to my son in Kansas. It went to Phoenix, NYC, and Denver before going to Kansas. In 8 days.

But I will grant that they are significantly cheaper than most of the rest of the world. And they work well with Amazon/UPS. And they are really good at making sure I get all my junk mail.

Take your letters to UPS or Fedex and see what it cost to mail across the country. I send everything via the post office.

Ya'll are forgetting about the military-industrial complex. The U.S. Government designs and builds the biggest and baddest weapon systems in the world. We supply weapons to nearly every nation in the Middle East. Even ISIS uses our weapons. And in addition to selling weapons overseas, we funnel billions of dollars to the huge, bloated corporations that build these weapon system. This "marriage" works great and the rich keep getting richer. This is what God and the Neocons want, isn't it?

They don't do anything with UPS. They work with FEDEX. Fedex ships things to the local post office, and then the item gets delivered by mail. It seems like everyone on ebay uses the postal service and it's usually "fast and free" I think is the term they use. From almost anywhere in the country I can get stuff in 2 days. I have absolutely no complaints about the postal service, in fact, they get high praise from me. I don't know why junk mail is a problem. Just throw it away. That's not the fault of the postal service.

Amazon primarily only uses FEDEX now for heavy ground shipments.

All of my Amazon Prime packages that UPS does not turn over to the USPS are delivered to my door by a guy in a brown truck. I'll take pictures next time if you like. The package that arrived in my mail box last Friday originated with UPS in Lexington, KY. Friday morning it was handed over to the USPS for delivery. I know, I tracked it.

Since you seem so determined to be right, when you are in fact wrong, I'll help:

Q. Why does the Post Office have my UPS Mail Innovations package?
A. UPS Mail Innovations works with the U.S. Postal Service, providing the pick-up, processing, and interim transportation of mail, with final delivery being made by domestic and international postal services.

Two labor unions working together to deliver your packages.

I stand corrected. I haven't ordered anything from Amazon in 6 months. I have something coming right now via USPS, which is the case with most things I've ordered. I always use free super saver shipping. I don't use Prime. I have no complaints. My personal experience with the post office is that delivery is efficient, fast, and usually free.

Fair enough. I buy and sell on ebay a bit. I've had a few issues with the USPS.
