Remeber that you can rent a kayak or a canoe for a good upper body workout.

Good suggestion but wouldn't that put me in the vicinity of those  dangerous October sharks...... although I could then probably avoid the pesty biting flies out on the water!

When I'm down there, I like to get an outdoor workout. This usually consist of a martial arts type trailing. I find the best sweat to come from kneeling at the base of the dunes and punching into them vigorously. After several minutes of that I like to "sprint" up the dunes. This is really more like crawling and scrtching your way to the top and then jumping and sliding back down. Really work up a sweat that way :D

RO - you crack me up!

I would not bet the farm on it. They are "suckers" for a guy in a canoe.

Just kidding, as I stated earlier, the nasties don't seem to bother the active people in October. Maybe it has to do with the salt in their sweat.

when we were down last week, we used the gym at Watercolor--it has nice cardio equipment (including "cardio theater" aka tv with headphones--my college gym is not nearly as nice!). Full set of weight-training stuff too. Rather plush showers, and helpful staff.
Our only complaint was that it was hot, but we found the South Walton rescue squad folks working out one day, so it must be a popular place.
