Yeah...but you know how they go on long bike rides and walk really far and stuff. I think she needs something sturdy. But we gotta keep her cool.

Judging from a few of the responses, my guess is that some people have some mucked up feet. I dont know many people who are willing to walk 4-5 miles per day in brand x flip flops. Surely your feet are more valuable than that?

Chacos are great shoes, unless your neighbors dog steals them from the front porch, carries them down the street to sit in his yard, and proceeds to chew the straps, severing them in multiple places. Even with those circumstances my Chaco's still hold up very well after I stitched them back together with some dental floss, which works very well for sewing in emergencies. I have hiked many miles in Chaco's. They are great shoes and very practical. While they will set you back twice as much as Tevas, or Tivas as RO says, they are worth the extra boot.

Dansko's? I own a pair and like them, but they are made more for standing rather than walking, esp on the beach.

Birks- my overall footwear of choice are awesome for me. Warning - not everyone likes the feel of Birks, esp when new. I wear out at least 3 pairs per year, and I mean wear out, ie- holes through the soles. If you do get the buckles wet with salt water, the buckles will eventually rust thru, unless you take care to rinse them well with fresh water when return home. I speak from experience on that one.

Mephisto sandals for walking gigs (there's an outlet at Destin, cause they're expensive).

Arch for comfy casual wear, but watch out for the black ones because the dye comes off on your feet and it has to wear off, won't wash off. These are very stylish French shoes, great looking but not for everyone.

For the deck and washing the car, flip-flops in every color from Old Navy or J Crew. We keep a big tangle of them in a tin bucket at the door. The inventory of colors and sizes keeps evolving with every guest.

And the thongs that don't look like thongs from Donald J Piner are hands down my favorite comfort shoe ever, plus they look wonderful and last forever. You can find these on-line or at that little shop next to Starbucks in Uptown Grayton. I buy two of each pair I really like, just in case they run out of stock or discontinue a particularly nice one.

i have become addicted to cole haan nike air sandals.. they sit on a nike bottom that is very comfortable to me. you can get them in several different styles, i have one pair of thongs, one pair with the strap around the ankles, and one pair i am not sure what you'd call them..they have a cole haan store at the keystone at the crossing mall, i was just there the other day, but nordstroms on line has a good selection too - that's where i order mine. plus lately shipping has been free. for some reason birks don't fit my feet that well, and someone also highly recommend dr. martens - they are waaaaay too heavy for everyday walking, i feel like i am dragging around bricks on my feet. let us know what you decide and happy shopping !

Speaking of shoes....when you come over here to dogsit your sister, remember to put your shoes up where she cannot get them. She got me yesterday...ate the silver ties off my silver sparkle ballet flats!!!! In fact, her poo poo was very shiny this morning! :bang: I think I can stitch a cute sparkle button where the ties used to be...I "cried" a little when I saw them!

That's it, Kimmi! I don't want to wear anything that smacks of dorky. But I still want to walk my miles.

I see some serious shoe shopping in my future. Before I posted this I knew only about keen, ecco, and teva. Now I'm armed and dangerous!
