Olympic track star Marion Jones was sentenced in a federal court Friday to six months in prison, two years of probation and community service for lying to federal prosecutors investigating the use of performance-enhancing substances.

How do you feel about this? I mean, virtually every week, Jay Leno jokes about how OJ got no jail time in the deaths of his wife and her friend. Yet Jones gets time for performance-enhancing substances?

Help me sort this out. Not my area of expertise. I'm probably wrong (so tell me so), but Jones' punishment seems extreme to me.

She's not going to jail for using. She's going to jail for lying in the course of a federal invesitgation, and I've got no problem with someone going to jail over something like perjury.

What's not getting picked up on in the press so much is that there are also fraudulent check charges that are contributing to the sentence length.

Great post, BR. I'm with you. I guess I need help sorting this out. I mean, what about all these baseball "stars"? Makes me sick.

She should have taken notes from Martha Stewart. Lying to the Feds gets you a quick trip to jail.

It has nothing to do with being worse than murder. It has to do with being proven guilty of perjury. Proving murder is more difficult.

Her story seems so sad to me--just makes me sick. She seemed like such a positive person, such a good role model. I hope there are good things that can still come out of her life.

What's the matter, with this picture?:dunno: Someone can molest a child, get away without a prison sentence cause she's too pretty, then be in violation of her "get off free" terms, only to then get away with that, too! What a screwed up, system! I'm not saying that Marion should get off... but.... this just seems skewed and screwed!:bang:
