Medical Question for Dr. Skunky

Poor guy. Imagine how he must feel. Like a most likely, especially when alienated. Certainly some of your students must have acne. Looks like they might be ingrown hair follicles. You know he must pick up on how strongly you feel about his germs. He probably already feels like a freak. When you're blessed with smooth skin, you really don't know how blessed you are. Like you said you probably get just as many germs at Houston's if not more. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they are not there. This is a young person. Do you think he likes his bumps? Do you think he wouldn't do anything to get rid of those bumps? Do you know how this could affect his self-esteem? You even have a picture of his neck bumps :roll: Give the poor kid a break! Have you ever had a student with HIV?

kristi, Beach Runner's posts were long, but read them again--this ain't bumps we're talkin' about. Shoot, I feel sorry for the kid, too, but I'll go out on a limb here and say his response to this health issue is nothing short of negligent.

I don't have a pus picture, but want to tell Johnrudy that my older brother had a very scary incident from taking too much Aleve. He has a heart condition and is diabetic, and after hurting his back last fall, began taking Aleve. He had taken prescripton Naproxen before with no problem. I think the dosage is 1 tablet every six hours...before long, he started taking two tablets every six hours. Then, two tablets every four hours. In a matter of days, he put on 35 pounds of water weight . He was as swollen as a tick. Scared the hell out of all of us - especially himself, as he could not breathe while lying down. He had to sit in his recliner, and even then, the edema was almost too much. He stopped the Aleve, dr put him on a diuretic, and he lost most of the water within two weeks.

I was taking Aleve, and would wake up in the middle of the night needing to use my inhaler. I didn't connect the two. My doctor advised me to stick with ibuprofin, but not to increase the dosage of anything.

But, lots of people take Aleve very successfully. I am not a doctor, and I think Skunky covered this already, but follow the directions in whatever you take. And, I hope you feel better - MUCH better - soon.

Got to be careful with the Ibuprofen, I got a hernia from it. We like George Roll at Seagrove Medical, and my neighbors a nurse, smart one too. I use Ultram for pain, takes the edge off.

Thanks for the info. I now have an Rx for Darvocet. So now I'm off the Aleve. Wow, that must be some bad stuff - and besides, it really didn't do a dam thing for me! I will have an MRI tomorrow. Today, the ortho. doc thinks it is probably a meniscus tear.

I was wondering how it went today. Hope the Darvocet helps. Sounds like the physician is taking it seriously if s/he ordered an MRI.

Yeah, thanks to the pus pictures, I just dropped mayonnaise from my diet. Which is probably a good thing.

I guess it boils down to one thing. Since you really can't control other's behavior or hygiene, and we don't know what's going on in thier life. The best thing we can all do for ourselves is wash our own hands after going in public places or 'going' ;-) anywhere for that matter? :sick: You know some people only use one square of TP.

Oh I will forever be indebted to you!! Thankfully, I needed to hear this from you BEFORE I went today!! Originally, I was mostly curious about the Aleve, but the thread developed into a diagnosis!

AND I learned about another horrific pus-filled, skin lesion disease. NOW I will never touch the handrails going down to the subway in Chicago. (hey, the vomiting smilie is gone!!!!!)

So what's up with your knee Jr?

I will have an MRI tomorrow at noon, then wait a couple of days for the report. He thinks it's probably a torn meniscus, but maybe not. Said the xrays looked good, lots of space between joints, but lots of fluid.

I'll say this, if is NOT a torn meniscus, then I have a whole 'nother problem! Something arthritic & extremely painful. I'm actually hoping for surgery and that be the end of it.
