Hey, SS. Glad your Molly is doing well!

No one asked about my Pepper. :sosad: She's doing well after a spaying and a stomach tack. The standard poodle is one breed in which bloat is more common than in other breeds, so The Standard Poodle Nation recommends tacking the stomach to prevent that potentially fatal ailment. Pep gets her stitches out on Friday, so she'll be totally recovered by Thanksgiving. I've been a nervous wreck since the surgery, praying for no complications.

So, SS, as Billy Clinton would say, "I feel your pain."

Where did I miss this? I think I only missed part of today, when I actually left the house (and the new dog-but I'll save that for another day) for more than an hour. Big surgery for your big dog! But it sounds like it will be good for her (and you!) in the long run. By T-giving, she'll be trying to jump on the counter to snag the turkey!

I didn't realize the surgery was so recent either!! So sorry to make a fuss over our own dogs and ignore yours! BTW, I love Standard Poodles. One of the smartest breeds. Some people don't believe that, or just don't WANT to believe that, but they are. Highly intelligent. My "John" is part miniature poodle and he just amazes us sometimes. Almost human!!
Glad things will be o.k. for your Pepper!

Thanks! Pepper's our first standard. We liked our miniatures, but after the home invasion we bought a big dog. When the Weim died, we decided to get a big poodle. She's awesome. It's a shame to spay such a beautiful dog, but we really didn't want to get into the business of breeding. We just wanted a beautiful dog that was bred as a show dog (which means a good temperament, otherwise she couldn't act properly in the ring).

EXCELLENT! Molly licks you in advance!

I finally got home....long day. Here are some recipes I like.(hope it's not too many) There are many more on the internet.

Cheesey Bacon Biscuits
? 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
? 1/2 tsp. baking soda
? 1/2 tsp. salt
? 1 stick margarine, softened
? 2/3 cup brown sugar
? 1 egg, slightly beaten
? 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
? 1 1/2 cups regular oats, uncooked
? 1 cup (4 oz.) shredded cheddar cheese
? 2/3 cup wheat germ
? 1/2 lb. bacon, cooked crisp, drained, and crumbled
Combine flour, soda and salt; mix well and set aside. Cream butter and sugar; beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour mixture, mixing well. Stir in remaining ingredients.
Drop dough by rounded teaspoons onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 for 16 minutes. Cool on baking sheet for a minute or so before removing to cooling rack.
Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
? 1 ? cups water
? ? cup oil
? 2 eggs
? 3 tablespoons peanut butter
? 2 tsp. vanilla
? 2 cups flour
? ? cup cornmeal
? ? cup oats
Blend wet ingredients together. Whisk dry ingredients together and mix into wet mixture to form a ball of dough. Roll out and shape. Put onto a non-stick cookie tray or lightly greased one. Cook 20 minutes at 400 F. Turn off oven and allow the biscuits to cool in oven until crisp and hard. Store in airtight container
Milk Bone Dog Biscuits
? 3/4 cup hot water
? 1/3 cup margarine
? 1/2 cup powdered milk
? 1 teaspoon salt
? 1 egg, beaten
? 3 cups whole wheat flour
? Variation: increase margarine to 1/2 cup and add 2 teaspoons sugar
In large bowl pour hot water over the margarine. Stir in powdered milk, salt, and egg. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time. Knead for a few minutes to form stiff dough. Pat or roll to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut into bone shapes. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Cool. They will dry out quite hard. Makes about 1 1/4 pounds of biscuits.

Maybe Molly will like one of the recipes.

t-bone sent me this to post:
Barkin' Chicken Crunchies

3-1/2 ounce jar of chicken baby food (without onions)
3/4 cup powdered skim milk
1/2 cup wheat germ

Mix dry ingredients.
Add baby food & mix thoroughly - dough may be stiff.
Spray nonfat baking spray onto cookie sheet.
Drop tablespoon sized balls of dough onto sheet.
Bake 10 - 14 minutes in a pre-heated 350 degree oven.
Cool & store in air-tight container.

Dogs also love this recipe made with beef baby food.

Also, you can stamp the dough with a paw print if you would like. Try it part way
through the baking or
immediately when you take them out of the oven. I did it with a rubber stamp.

Molly will love these!
