Ya'll think this is cute, what about the others that are floating around clogging up the ecosystem. More crap floating around that doesn't need to be there. Sorry but this is the kind of thing that chaps my ars! It starts in the school but this is the mentality of todays people. Remember they only put rescue notes in bottles. I think if it said please place me in the trash it wouldn't be so romantic and it still would be laying in the sand. Every piece of trash on the beach ought to have a return address on it so it could be returned to the buttwipe that left it there to begin with. :welcome: Have a nice day!

It's a small bottle, it's non-toxic, and it's gonna be worth more to this kid when he gets it back than anything in the world. We'll put you on the "no" list for adding to the package.

I've lost faith in you and thought you of all people would get this. :dunno: Here is a link. http://www.hawaiianatolls.org/research/June2006/exploitation.php

I really don't want this to go down hill fast.

I can either go with the fact that while a pollutant was put into the ecosystem it did no damage I am aware of and was removed, or we can follow your logic and ban any kind of water sports (including surfing) as there is a chance that even those items could become trash. Surfers crash and lose boards all the time.

I've spent tons of times on the beach and always feel compelled to pick up the trash. I'd say that the ton or so of trash I've picked up doesn't even come close to the one single message in a bottle that I have also discovered.

I wish another thread had been started for the negative comments. There won't be a mass message-in-a-bottle tossing in SoWal tomorrow- it was just a really cool find. That's it. Make it into the trash issue on another thread. Too bad this thread can't be full of greetings from SoWal.

I think just the right people found Zach's bottle.;-) He's going to be very happily surprised.

I think it was fate that they found it- this kid will be so surprised! What a story!

I think this is great! I will whole heartedly add to the package. there are so many other AWFUL things that people do to the eco-system that a small bottle is not so bad. It was not sent into the water with bad intentions, but much of what is sent into the gulf....is with bad intentions and with knowledge of how it will affect the eco-system....a young kid has no mailce.

All good messages in bottles announce the location from where it was tossed to sea.

Is it trash, or is it treasure? That answer is always in the eyes of the beholder, is it not? If the message had read, "go ef yourself!," or, "Please throw me away," the perception of the bottle may have been a little different. If the message announced that it was an experiment from a second grade science class in England, or if it was sent by some old sea man dated 1464, we all would be wetting our pants to learn more about it, though it is still just a piece of paper in a bottle. No need for editing, as GRS does have much truth in what he typed. It is just in conflict with others' perceptions of a cute kid tossing a small message in bottle into the sea, hoping for a reply.

By the way, many product packages, in the past, had a little logo of a stick-man throwing away garbage, which I believe was part of the "Pitch-In" Campaign. Why don't companies print that logo on their product labels anymore?
