What an amazing find!!!! Just think, TWO YEARS have gone by...Zack probably hasn't thought of this in a very long time. I can just imagine the wonder and surprise when he opens this package!

Tell him he MUST post on SoWal to let us know all the details....how old is he, what were the circumstances surrounding the launch, what did he think when he opened the package, etc.

SWGB and Scuba===how exciting for you as well! What a great Christmas story!!! Well done!

What a great find! I may take up walking on the beach regularly again just in case I'm lucky enough to be able to clean up the environment. I am sure Zac's Christmas will be enhanced by this. Congratulations, SWOB and DestinScuba on such a great find!

All good messages in bottles announce the location from where it was tossed to sea.

Is it trash, or is it treasure? That answer is always in the eyes of the beholder, is it not? If the message had read, "go ef yourself!," or, "Please throw me away," the perception of the bottle may have been a little different. If the message announced that it was an experiment from a second grade science class in England, or if it was sent by some old sea man dated 1464, we all would be wetting our pants to learn more about it, though it is still just a piece of paper in a bottle. No need for editing, as GRS does have much truth in what he typed. It is just in conflict with others' perceptions of a cute kid tossing a small message in bottle into the sea, hoping for a reply.

By the way, many product packages, in the past, had a little logo of a stick-man throwing away garbage, which I believe was part of the "Pitch-In" Campaign. Why don't companies print that logo on their product labels anymore?

I believe the logo was generally replaced with the international logo for recycle.

Probably 40 years ago, my best friend and I tossed in a small glass bottle with a message off the pier at Pensacola Beach. We never heard from anyone. To this day, we still joke about it, wondering whatever happened to it! Ecosystem or not, these are things kids do. Fun memories.

GRS has a very valid point that trash in the oceans is a HUGE problem, especially for sea life. But to think our effects on the seas are limited to what we toss in there is shortsighted. Everyone on the planet has an effect, even if they live many miles from sea and never even visit. I think perspective is called for. The big picture, and the small picture too. Tossing that bottle in is sort of trying to grab hold of the magic of the sea. If we lose that sense of wonder and magic, we won't ever fix the rest of the problems. Zack will connect with the ocean and with a community, and that is important too. Maybe the most important thing of all for the future, IMHO.

Awesome.

The bottle was at the Seaside parade, and we got to touch it!
