Where and when?

Thanks for the reply; not quite sure how to respond so.... Our need for tamales is soonish (when); we will dine on them in seagrove (where). I've been looking around for these tamale makers recently on this site (last post seems to be in fall 2009). Is their location top seacrest? PM me? . :ninja:

No mas

They weren't there today.

I have learned that one of the duo is no longer in the area and the remaining tamale artist is not in the biz. If that is incorrect I would be delighted to know.

You can get fantastic tamales at El Mercadito (do I have name right?) on HWY. 98 next to Shoo Mamas. They have tamales in corn husks or grape leaves, and the best Mexican counter lunch around.

I think I just solved tonight's dinner dilemma.

Jenny:

You are correct about the excellent tamales from the Mercadito. You can get them in pork or chicken at a very, very reasonable price. I believe that they are either in corn husks or banana leaves instead of grape leaves however. Regardless.....superb grub.....

I have also bought them frozen- a dozen per bag. They are easily thawed/steamed.

Wow. Thanks for reminding us about El Mercadito, jdarg. I keep forgetting about them. Off there for lunch tomorrow, and coming home with a batch of tamales.
