How much of his own money has Mitt invested into his bid for the presidency?

Does anyone else think that he does not expect a return on his investment .... I believe the President makes around $400,000 a year ... for 4 years he will only recoup 1.6 million of his investment ...

Everyone is bragging about how good of a business man he is ... and I agree ... but ordinarily successful business people do not throw their money into the wind without expecting more (profit) to blow back at them ...

Doesn't he get that salary for life?

Since he has that much money to spend, he may not be looking for a return in $ terms as much as one in terms of history and his role in it. :dunno:

Even to the cynical, he's now part of US & world history, will be addressed as President for life w/ many trappings, and will probably get his face on a coin.

I didn't say he was doing it out of a desire to serve his country or give back to his fellow man (he may well be), just that not everything is a $ vs. $ scenario.

Mitt took no salary as Governor of Mass., so obviously he isn't interested in the job for the money. I don't know how much of his own money he has spent, but he did comment that he won't allow his campaign to fail because of financial reasons--he says he is obligated to see this thing through out of respect for all those who have contributed to his campaign.

It seems to me that if I were actually spending my own money, I would be a lot more motivated than if I were spending someone else's.

My understanding is that he can use any funds raised to reimburse his own account of the money "borrowed." Of course he has enough money to blow plenty, from what I read.

Four pro-family leaders endorse Mitt Romney for Florida Presidential Preference primary.

Dennis Baxley, David Caton, Carole Griffin and Anthony Verdugo, representing over fifty years of combined pro-family leadership in Florida, support Mitt Romney in the Florida Presidential Preference Primary.

The election results from Florida's Primary on January 29th will play a significant role in the Republican nomination for president. Florida's election results are expected to heavily influence the choice of voters during the February 5th Super Tuesday primary that will be held in many other state.

Mitt Romney is clearly the most conservative candidate among the top three competitive candidates (Giuliani, McCain, Romney) appearing on the Florida Presidential Preference ballot in Florida.

Dennis Baxley is the incoming Executive Director for Christian Coalition of Florida and former Florida State Representative for District 24.

David Caton is the Executive Director of Florida Family Association.

Carole Griffin is a pro-family lobbyist in Tallahassee and heads the Eagle Forum in Florida.

Anthony Verdugo is the president of Christian Family Coalition.

I finally understand how this "business" runs. Thanks!
You said, "Walton County currently has 108 precinct positions. 81 of these positions are currently empty. And this is typical throughout this State. In a Presidential election year, all you have to do to get elected to one of these positions is fill out a piece of paper at the elections office, and if there are more positions in a precinct than people running, you are automatically elected. If not you run an election in your precinct to win the seat. In the off season, such as now, come to a couple of meetings, express an interest, and unless someone there really has some reason not to put you on as a precinctperson, you are going to get put on the position. There is not any pay or any real power in the position,"
Just so I understand this; if I wanted to truly make a difference, or at least feel a part of making a difference, I could come to a couple meetings, a couple of the executive meetings? or of the varied "Party" meetings throughout the county? and by filling out proper paperwork, by getting elected if necessary, I could become a "precinctperson"??

Then what would I be obligated to do? What are the duties of a "Precinct Person"?
