MOLES, I HATE them!!! There go your tulips IBD, they love to eat the bulbs. They say if you will have your lawn sprayed to get rid of grubs you will get rid of the moles. About 3 years ago we started having our lawn sprayed and I will say there are fewer moles now, but not completely mole free.

My mom had them in her yard and she heard human urine drove them off. Well Mr. IBD had to give his services but to no avail...they did not leave. :rotfl: :rotfl: She also used cat urine balls from the kitty litter... Poor mom, they never left.......

Oh yeah,
Mothballs are composed of napthalene and/or paradichlorobenzene, both are toxic substances. By law in the US, pesticides can not be used for purposes other than stated on the label. Mothballs are a pesticide. Scattering them over the yard for repelling animals is definately not on the label. Mothballs have been implicated in several poisonings of small children who mistake them for candy. The label almost certainly states that they are not to be placed where they can be accessed by children. In the situation you describe, they could also be hazardous for animals such as cats and dogs.

I think the human urine and human hair was often used to try to get rid of the moles back in the days of old, but it was most often ineffective.

I have been in your shoes. We had moles really bad. Tried EVERY remedy...traps, cat urine, human hair, chewing gum, moth balls with no avail. My dad kept telling me to "remove the food source, remove the mole". My husband went to the local Co-op, Lowe's would work, and got stuff to kill the food supply. It worked like a charm. Dad knew everything.

I realize that is not "good" for my yard, but had to make a choice. Broken ankles or small creatures living. Few suggestions. If you have pets, do half of the yard (front or back), then do the other half so they have a place to go that is safe. Put it out before a rain so it gets into the soil.

Hope this takes care of those frustrating rodents.

:D the moth balls seem to run them off for a while, but they do come back after the aroma wears off...of course your yard will smell like my grandmothers house..:rotfl:

:rotfl: ...omg, now that's funny. Sorry IBD. My exterminator is here every three days checking traps in one of our attics for "mice" as he calls them. They are actually Norwegian RATS or roof rats that have burrowed down in the insulaton to stay warm. So far, one fatality.

EEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKK!!!

I would have to move out. At our vacation in Seagrove after Katrina....yes wise Kurt and SJ told us not to come (insert bowing smilie).

So we get to our very nice house...and I notice droppings...odd I thought. That night I go to bed with the wind still howling and hear scratching..think the branches wind. It continues, I turn on the light and it stops. Not a good sign. Spent the rest of the night with the light on listening for sounds. I had closed the bathroom door. Terrifed of rodents, I got my precious child to check out the bathroom..she comes screaming out and we shut the door. A rat as big as her size 6 foot....body alone.

Call the exterminator he catches it. As I am trying to call the exterminator, my elderly mother keeps saying "Call the law", they will take care of it...I so badly wanted to hurt her. Well, it wasn't the only rodent and we moved out 3 days later. It seems the rain made them look for shelter. If I had time, I would give all the details. It took us a year to get over the horror of that trip...now we just laugh a lot.

Miss Kitty...I offer you my rodent free home in TN if you need to get away. If not I will be praying for your safety!! How do you sleep at night??? I have chills thinking about it...

The kicker to the trip.....as we were packing, my daughter screams. Her suitcase was on the extra bed in her room. One of the rodents had been on THAT bed and chewed through her bag for her toothbrush.:puke: Oh, the memories.

 ...what a story! I am not scared...Kitties don't mind a few rats here and there....especially if they stay in the attic. Marcus, my loyal Terminix man, is all over this!!!

Terriers love moles. Find a few Jack Russells and give them a job! Of course it might be hard to find one that remembers it's purpose in life. (J/K)

Our old Golden Retriever thought she was a terrier and would dig out a tunnel until she found a mole, then would bring it to us as a "gift".
