I agree and have always admired the man. He is in the race for similar reasons as Paul, because it gives them a voice during the campaign to speak about issues that are important to them and the country. People criticize Nader for taking votes away from Gore. In my opinion that is probably Gore's fault for not being a better candidate. But if Gore had won I doubt we would have invaded Iraq. If I were Nader that would weigh heavily on my conscience.

Being in the race also boosts the post-campaign recognition and efforts of Nader, Paul, and Huckabee. And any other candidate for that matter.

Nader is very clear on the issue of what happened in the 2000 race.
He believes that Gore won the race and I agree with him. The state of
Florida and the Supreme Court of the United States sided with George W.
I believe that was where the mistakes were made. The Supreme Court
Justices who voted on the side of George W. should be the ones losing sleep at night. Current Iraq Death toll Estimates:
135,000 + of which 4,279 are US Military and Coalition forces.

I also believe that those americans who did not vote in that election are
also responsable for the mess that we are in. If more people had taken the time to really get to know the canidates and actually voted, then that election could have been very different.

There is the problem of those 537 votes. It does cause a bit of problem when you have to count each of them.

Nader is running because none of the major candidates are addressing corporate crime, impeaching the war criminals Bush and Cheney, and a number of other things. God bless the troublemakers!

Even if Nader does not have a realistic chance of winning, his being in the race brings issues and ideas into the spot light that absolutely need to be talked about.

interesting thread here.

however lacking in charm he may be, I realize he has some important achievements and ideas - and he should have some role in helping our country. why the hail does he have to run for president in order to have himself heard? is this the only way to make a difference - to me he just makes himself more controversial in the process - making fewer of us even want to hear what he has to say.

peter - I disagree on you about your assessment of clinton being a disaster. those days were the good old days, especially if you compare them to these. just my opinion of course.

The Oscars were on last night. Most of the categories, there are five nominees. Would be pretty boring if it was only two, no?

I'd definitely be game for a field of 3-5 serious* candidates and getting rid of all the super delegates, electoral college nonsense etc.

One vote per person. Person with the most votes wins. ;-)

*A fringe candidate or one who has a limited appeal/base does not qualify IMO.

Yes any white woman or black man off the street would be perfect for to be our next president maybe even a person that can't speak english. Go to merriams and look up logic you aren't using the word correctly. Straight from the Merriam-Webster online site:
Main Entry: 1pro?gres?sive Pronunciation: \prə-ˈgre-siv\ Function: adjective Date: circa 1612
1 a: of, relating to, or characterized by progress b: making use of or interested in new ideas, findings, or opportunities c: of, relating to, or constituting an educational theory marked by emphasis on the individual child, informality of classroom procedure, and encouragement of self-expression
2: of, relating to, or characterized by progression
3: moving forward or onward : advancing
4 a: increasing in extent or severity <a progressive disease> b: increasing in rate as the base increases <a progressive tax>
5often capitalized : of or relating to political Progressives
6: of, relating to, or constituting a verb form that expresses action or state in progress at the time of speaking or a time spoken of
7: of, relating to, or being a multifocal lens with a gradual transition between focal lengths<progressive bifocals>
Where is your definition?
Racial and gender equality are non issues?!?

Please look at def. #3
3: moving forward or onward : advancing
See advancing
intransitive verb
2: to make progress
or as I stated making progress.

(Is English your first language ?)
( I am also assuming you can use a dictionary??)

Again you missed the point.
Equality IS the issue. True equality has nothing to
do with: color, race, gender, or age. Equality means
Those non-issues are just that non-issues. They are
Things that you should not/must not use in picking a leader.

Just remember, the really bad stuff that companies like Enron, Worldcom and others did happened in 1998-2000 and the SEC is part of the Executive Branch.
