I wasn't suggesting we lower the speed limit on 30A, I was suggesting we add additional support along the roadway for other types of vehicles. There's plenty of room, and it's just a little bit of grading and asphalt.

Because it's so very green to just add a little bit more asphalt...
Rainwater drainage along 30A is already a nightmare! You've gotta be kidding! :bang:

With gas predicted to hit $5/gallon by 2012 you'll be seeing more alternative energy vehicles including LSV's on 30A

And if the Sheriff's Dept. is doing their job, we'll be seeing more blue lights as well...

Yes, high gas prices seem to be one of the few things that makes the majority of the population think about conservation and alt fuels.

Though I predict more bikes, carpools, fuel efficient, hybrids, and electrics than LSVs.

Just a guess, but I bet the majority of golf carts cluttering up the 30-A corridor are rentals. $5 gas means fewer prospective golf cart renters coming to town. I would bet most locals don't burn too much gas on 30-A to begin with, most is expended driving to points east and west on HWY 98.

$5/gallon gas will make people drive less. It will hurt SUV sales. It will drive up the demand for fuel efficient vehicles made by Toyota and Ford and Chevy. It will fuel (no pun intended) growth and adoption of technology that we see in vehicles like the Prius and the Volt.

It will cause very few to buy golf carts.

People of modest income can't own glorified golf carts for daily transportation. They need a dependable, all-weather vehicle that can make short or long drives to and from work and for personal drives. Their $6000 will be spent on a good used car, pickup, SUV, or minivan.

Behind all the posturing about fuel efficiency, there are two kinds of people promoting use of these vehicles on 30A: Well-to-do folks who want to venture out of their neighborhood at the beach in their golf cart/buggy/LSV (call it any name you want), and those with a commercial interest in selling or renting those same vehicles. I'm just guessing here, that those who fall in the first group aren't trying to help reduce our carbon footprint by driving a Prius/Volt/Leaf as their primary mode of transportation.

I think of these souped-up golf carts as the chariots of the nouveau riche.

That goes back to my point that they are luxuries (toys). I'd be willing to bet that it takes more energy to collect and process raw materials, build an LSV, transport it to dealers and to final destination, marketing, etc. than one would ever save by parking their primary car.

Especially when a large SUV is driven hundreds of miles to get here and still driven most of the time while here. Also consider all the petroleum and other resources necessary just for parts to build an LSV.

Yes they burn less gas than most autos, but touting LSVs as green is just marketing bs and insults our intelligence.

I'm not so sure the safety argument holds water on the other side, at least until you see pre-teens packed in one crossing yards, weaving on and off the bike path ignoring all traffic laws, driving down beach boardwalks . . .

So by the same generalization if you're against LSV's you're either poor or against small business?
