I am a vegetarian, and support many animal welfare organizations, but I think whether we like it or not, people are going to eat meat. I think many animal welfare organizations shoot themselves in the foot when trying to convince people to not eat meat. Like I said, people are going to eat meat regardless, and by showing them videos of how their meat is often produced and saying "see, look how bad it is!" people begin to turn a blind eye and say "Well I don't care, I just like eating meat." I think animal welfare organizations would find better results if they fought for more humane farming practices like outlawing factory farming, instead of focusing on eradicating meat consumption all together. PETA is an organization that I don't take seriously, but I think the ASCPA has it right.

There's definitely shock value to the videos. I for one am glad - as those are the images that follow along with me when I shop or eat out. I want to remember that factory farming is cruel and that there are better choices for animals and our environment - example - Twin Oaks Twin Oaks Farm | Where we grow real food (local).

I too am not a huge PETA fan. I much prefer Vegan Outreach. They have a leaflet I've handed out called Even If You Eat Meat. They try and educate about the cruelties of Factory Farming and ask that folk consider cutting back on meat - on all animal products.

The absolute best resource out there, and I know I sound like a broken record, is to read Eating Animals. By far the best book I've ever read on what factory farming is truly all about - told in story form. A must for any meat eater as don't we all want to have the healthiest meat for us, our planet and have meat that is produced in the most humane way possible for the animals? Who reading this is not an animal lover? Has a dog? A cat? Would we dare stand for them to be treated inhumanely? A pig or calf or chick is no different.
